2012 Carson Pop Warner & Douglas Pop Warner…

My first week of being able to get out to some Pop Warner action today… it’s always amazing to see the kids… the next year, how much they grow each year is really amazing!

Here are just a few shots from today’s action.  Check out the galleries under current events or under photo galleries.

I love this!  Just one of those “moments” of the game…I love seeing into the face mask!  Love to see those eyes…

These boys are getting BIG!!  Two of the Douglas Unlimited team here… they cruised to a win over Carson.

2012 Douglas High Football… vs Hug High…

Douglas tonight!  Boy can this team put up some points in a hurry!  Mr. Nolting is looking great at QB and Peterson at running back… I’ve been watching him the last few years, and I think he might have been overshadowed a bit by Dylan Sawyers in Carson… but he’s an impressive back!  He’s tough to take down and he generates yards where it looks like there are none to me had!  A pretty easy win for Douglas tonight… good thing too cause the student fans cleared out quick to head off to a dance at the school!

Here are some shots from the night.  Tough lighting at DHS… I’ve been playing with a bunch of setting to try to get things “right”.  🙂

See all the shots from tonight in the school gallery.  Thanks for looking!Nolting aired one out early… gotta love when you “catch” it!  🙂I was just thinking the other day, I don’t have any helmet off photosGotta at least get one shot of Hug… I’ve got a very similar image against Carson of the same player…This fella is impressive!  Keep and eye on his performance this season, I’d guess some records are gonna fall this year!

“Proof”; a short film by RC Concepcion about the power of photography.

This was made a short while ago but it goes straight to the “heart” of photography and making great pictures.

Joe McNally is one of my very favorite photographers (see the link on my home page).  I’ve studied his work, I’ve heard him talk countless times, try as I might… maybe someday I’ll be 1/100 the photographer he is….

RC Concepcion… He’s one of “The Photoshop Guys” with the National Assoc. of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP).  I’m of course a member of NAPP and last week was at their biannual “convention” called Photoshop World.  It’s a very intensive three days (as in two 15 hour days and one 8 hour day…) of photography, social media, photoshop, web development, etc. training.  Well… I attended a few of RC’s seminars.  He’s very intellectual in his approach, very thoughtful, very emotional, very appropriate for our times. Over the last few months I’ve gained a tremendous amount of respect for RC, he’s a great mind in the world that I’m striving to become a part of daily.  Thank you RC for your work.

As I mentioned above, RC put this short film together a short while ago.  RC is from New York so the significance of 9/11 is particularly relevant.  Joe McNally is also from New York.  RC reposted his video again today on Google+ and every time I watch it, it resonates with me… again, someday I hope to have some fraction of the impact this movie demonstrates.  Thank you RC.  Thank you Joe McNally.

Enjoy!

2012 Carson High Football vs. Reno High

WOW!  What and ending!  99 Yards for a game winning touchdown!  What a night for the Senators!  Well done fellas! 13-10 final score.

Here are some photos from the night… check out the rest in the gallery for Carson High Athletics.  See you back out on the football field in a few weeks… Soccer and volleyball up next!

I’ll start with the “passionate” crowd…

Joey running in the first touchdown…… some love for the defense…
… and can’t forget the offense…… the game winning dive!and celebration… Great job Casey!

2012 Carson High Football Opening Night vs. Hug High…

I’ve been waiting for this night for weeks!  This is the most excited about football season starting that I’ve ever been…!  The day started out well… ran the dog, my buddy wanted to go for a motorcycle ride over Geiger Grade and back the new freeway… burgers and fries for lunch in Reno… then off to a football game!  What a day!!

I’m not the best to comment on the game itself… Carson won 50-26 vs. the visiting Hug Hawks (love the matte green helmets that Hug’s wearing, see the photos below…)… time will tell this season how strong either team is, no one ever really gives Hug much of a chance in much other than basketball… so we’ll see…

BUT… I can show you some photos that I’m VERY excited about from tonights game!  As always, you can find them in the Carson High Athletics Gallery under current events or in our Photo Galleries page… and there will be more after each home game!

See you back out at the fields next week!

Kick it off with this one…. a little “effect” on the photo…Joey Thurman opened the game up with a long run deep into Hug’s end of the field… very nearly a touch down… see below, he also ended the game with a TD run… got him running to me and away tonight… 🙂A little love for the Defense… the end of a sack on the Hug QB…This speaks for itself I guess… 😉 Nice catch Logan! (check out the rubber flying in the series in the gallery when he tries to stay inbounds…!)Carson QB Garrett Schafer rolling out for a pass…
Part of why I’ve been so excited about this season starting is because I’m anxious to get to work trying some new things… THIS photo is one of them… this is full frame, no crop with a full frame sensor camera with a 400mm 2.8/f lens… always trying to improve… fun stuff when you set out to try to accomplish something and it works out!  Thanks Colby for being a good subject tonight! This is another example… been looking at some online training classes… I’m subjecting myself to another portfolio review in 10 days at a photo convention in Vegas… these two are going in with me for the grillin’…. 🙂

… and we end the night with Joey running off into the sunset… well… 🙂  you get the idea…

Nevada State Junior & Senior Little League Tournament… Day Four…

Two for two!  Juniors and Seniors!  Carson City Little League Juniors won the Nevada State Championship tonight at Governor’s Field, Congrats Fellas! Here is some of the action from the game tonight… shooting games with large run differentials can be tough to come up with “game action”… not much of it tonight… so here are some of the shots that I liked… 🙂 I like the little whisp of dirt off the bat/ball on this one…With these tournaments you meet some nice people from out of the area… the umpire crew, mostly from California, were a nice bunch of guys… always makes things fun to be around a great group of people. To the PV fellas… sorry I mistakenly said at first the photo showed him safe, I was confused with fatigue from the month of baseball I’ve been photographing! … here’s the photo I was talking about…. Certainly my favorite photo from the night… Sorry Jordan, I’m laughing WITH you… (note the ball on his left heel…)… and Bryce couldn’t let Jordan dance alone…If you’ve followed my posts this past season you’ll remember me talking about the “golden” sunshine late in games, just before sunset… Here it is… makes such nice light on the players.

Nevada State Junior & Senior Little League Tournament… Day Two…

The Senior Division tournament is over… Congrats to the Carson City Seniors, they won the best of three game series over Mountain Ridge.  They will go on to play in So. Cal next week.  Good luck on the road fellas!

… there are a lot more photos on the site from the game… here’s one I liked…

The Junior Division continues tonight with the losers bracket game… the winner to play Carson City on Thursday for the Championship.

Here’s one image from last night’s game… one of those “it depends who you are” kinda photos… the Silverada 2nd baseman is tagging the Peccole runner… and it might look a bit odd… the runner is actually trying to get back to second… he smacked one deep into left center and was full speed rounding second but when he looked up the runner in front of him on third was stopped… the cartoon sound for a car would be screeeeaaaaaaccccccchhhhhhhhhh!… but that doesn’t work on the dirt. 🙂  The mad scramble back to second… but Silverada reacted well and was able to tag him out.  “Depends who you are”  🙂
