2016 Bishop Manogue High Football vs. Carson, October 7, 2016

Even for the non-football fan, last night’s game was an interesting one… Bishop Manogue held the ball for nearly the first eight minutes of the game and drove the ball, seemingly right down the field and scored their first touchdown to begin the game… they chewed a ton of time off the clock and ran what seemed like a ton of plays… and at least for the first Carson drive, which included a beautiful Jace Keema pass to Brandon Gagnon, Carson didn’t seem to have their killer plays with them… but like I said… for the first drive…

Carson got their bearings with the Manogue offense and started to make stops and then the Abel Carter show started… 🙂 For his longest touchdown run I was behind them in the end zone and was able to see the massive hole the Carson O-Line opened for Abel… no joke, you could have driven a VERY large vehicle through the hole and off to the end zone went Abel… Good job O-line!  … and to Abel of course too!

Games like this with a lot of inside runs are tough to photograph… a big mash of players fighting in the trenches doesn’t make for very interesting photos, no faces, no ball, who even knows where the ball is sometimes… so the raw photo count from the night’s game aren’t plentiful, but there were some moments that I grabbed that I liked…

One of Brandon Gagnon’s receptions on the night… how much better would this be if he was facing me! 🙂Brandon Gagnon, Carson High

There were a few players on the Manogue team that played their youth football in Carson City, Connor Larkin (here) tackles Jake Roman… always good to see the kids that grew up in front of your eyes in Carson City playing at this level. 🙂

2016 Carson High Football vs. Galena, September 30, 2016, Homecoming!

League play has started and Carson got off the a great start against Galena… with less than four minutes off the clock Carson was up 14-0 and never looked back… They certainly came to play in front of a Homecoming crowd! They won 40-13 which puts them 1-0 in league, the next two games are on the road at Manogue and at Damonte (likely to be their Sierra League toughest opponent this season…).

These “first league games”/homecoming nights always have me reflecting back on the years I’ve been covering sports in the local area… I always tell the kids, every year, they’re always Freshman, Sophomores… yet I am getting older, “Freshman” don’t get older… but it’s nights like tonight that I can think back to days and games and tournaments where I first met some of these young “kids”… on the little league, softball, soccer and football fields of Carson City… I’ve seen a lot of their “life” unfold… then when I see them walking across the field with Mom or Dad in the Homecoming Court… it’s really an amazing journey we’ve been on!  The transformation from “little kids” to young adults and then when they return from college, yea, it’s making me feel older, but it’s really great to see them “grow up” and get out and do their “thing” in the world!

I want to give a little shout out to a good friend of mine… Brent Reinke… he’s a perfect example of what I just mentioned… Brent was a freshman in the yearbook class when I met him… Joey Bowers who was the “senior photographer” at the time brought Brent out to show him how to shoot football for the yearbook… Fast forward a lot of years… Brent drove the first car tonight for Capital Ford (where he now works…) in the Homecoming Court parade lap! I just saw him a few days ago at the dealership to catch up a bit but it was great to see him last night and catch up again… we spent a lot of good times at Carson High, some good laughs and a lot of photos were clicked in the process.  It’s those experiences that bring me back to the field… so many stories… 🙂

Besides the wind, it was a BEAUTIFUL evening! The silhouette of the mountains in the evening is my favorite time of the night, so beautiful!

No one has nicknamed Abel Carter… how about “The Steamroller”… we need something… the more I look at this photo it says so much about Abel’s accomplishments this year and we JUST started “League” tonight… Several opponents needed to bring him down, WELL past the 1st down marker… and he’s a Junior….

2016 Carson High Girls Soccer vs. Galena, September 24, 2016

I’ve had a busy fall so far.  I’ve had a tough time getting out to any soccer games this season!  I’m coaching both of my daughter’s soccer teams so that’s pulled me away… but Saturday, I was able to make it out to the Carson vs. Galena Girls Varsity game… There was a lot of action for Carson with quite a lot of exciting opportunities, they kept knocking on the door until the last minutes of the game.  The Senators pulled out a 2-1 win… I can’t say that the score really reflected the run of play but that’s soccer… 🙂

Here are some shots from the game… more in the Carson High Gallery… https://instaimage.com/chs/soccer

2016 Carson High Football vs. Reed, September 9, 2016

A tough pill to swallow tonight for the Senators… I’ve never actually seen a texas shootout but points were adding up on the scoreboard tonight by both teams and a 4th quarter battle down to the wire saw Reed squeaking out a win at Carson High 47-41 with a touchdown in the final seconds.

Abel Carter again for Carson led the charge with some monster yardage tonight, his first two carries alone amounted to over 80 yards, he even passed to quarterback Jace Keema for a touchdown…

Here are some images from the night.

And the Reed Raiders… they’re likely still the team to beat this year in the North State or so say the “media”… I think we’re likely to see a strong run by Carson after tonight’s shootout!Reed Raiders Reed Raiders Reed Raiders

2016 Carson High Football vs. Desert Mountain from Scottsdale, AZ

Could you call this a dream weekend for Carson High?  Friday you get to hear legendary NFL player Kurt Warner talk and then you go head to head with his son and (and Dad too as he’s the offensive coordinator…) on your home field and come away with a 49-42 win in front of a good sized Carson Hometown crowd?  That’s pretty special!

The Senators hosted Desert Mountain High from Scottsdale, AZ for their opening home game and there was no lack of “entertainment”… 🙂

The Senators came away with a 49-42 win over the Wolves in what can really be described as an Abel Carter show… Desert Mountain simply had nothing to stop him!  Six touchdowns, two on pick-six scores that really took the wind out of the Arizona team’s sails…

What a way to start the season!!  Here are some photos of the evening.Carson High Football

I know there’s a lot of video shared and consumed in football but you still never really know until you step on the field and are toe to toe with your opponent… last night was no different… Here’s Desert Mountain’s Quarterback Austin Neussle looking for his target early in the first quarter. (photo geek stuff… you have to love that beautiful light from the sun lighting his face, great stuff, kinda rare in varsity football with normal 7:00 PM starts…)

Not even a flat tire (check the shoes…) can stop Abel Carter… (photo note here… see that shadow in the background? got SUPER lucky that the sun was still on Abel’s upper body here.  The press box is the culprit for creating that shadow on the field and it’s a disaster for photos while that shadow creeps across the field… 7 PM game times eliminate that shadow problem 🙂 )Abel Carter Carson High School

This photo pretty much sums up Desert Mountain’s night against Abel Carter… they’re going the other direction… Congrats Abel on a super night!Abel Carter Carson High School

2016 Carson High Football season has begun!

Some new faces in some new positions but the same great Senator spirit.  The fellas are excited about playing and showing what they can do!

The Senators hosted a three team (Fallon, Spanish Springs) scrimmage today at Carson High.  Lots and lots of reps for all the teams, they should all be tired after today’s action!

And speaking of action, here’s some from the night!Tyler Huiling runs for a touchdown Jace Keema passes to Abel Carter Kellen McDermott Jace Keema

The 2016 Nevada District 1 All Star Tournament… Day 8

Getting down to just a few teams left in the hunt for the championships for each age division… Some really close games tonight along with some really great plays!  Well done players!

https://instaimage.com/NVDIST1/index.html

Have to go with this one tonight for Photo of the Day… I wasn’t on the ball enough to actually get the play he made but a huge ball of dirt swallowed him… but he made the play and kept the ball in the infield! 🙂

The 2016 Nevada District 1 All Star Tournament… Day 7

Day 7 down… If you were out at the park tonight you witnessed a great game between the Reno National 12’s and the Reno American 12’s… great game!  Should be a teaser for what’s still to come in the tournament!
