2012 Douglas High Football… vs Galena High…

Based on how the year for Douglas has gone so far if you had told me this one would be high scoring I would have agreed… if you would have tried to convince me that half of the stuff that went on tonight would happen… interceptions, a safety, kick off reverse touchdown, etc. I would not have believed it…

Combined scores for 100 total points… 57-43 Galena was the final… I’m not even remotely a “student” of the game of football, it still baffles me why they do (or try) some of the things they do… this will be an eternal debate between soccer players and football players… but there was no shortage of “excitement” tonight!

Just a few photos here, check the galleries for both teams for more game action!  Out early for Carson-Douglas Soccer tomorrow at Douglas (4 games starting at 9:00 am).

I couldn’t resist this one… can you tell who is on offense?  This was called pass interference on the… offense… Galena was given the penalty on this one!

And this was the very last image I shot tonight… the runner is the older brother of Will, who’s my poster child for two of my baseball collages… and while that is of significance… I love the Douglas player’s face too much to pass it up!  … not to mention his “horizontal-ness”…  Expressions can make such an impact on an image!  🙂

The North State Division 1 Football standings are certainly going to be VERY interesting this year!  This result, Damonte edging Carson… what a ride we’re going to be on for the next few weeks!!  Hold on and keep an eye on the site for more action here!

2012 Douglas High Football… vs Hug High…

Douglas tonight!  Boy can this team put up some points in a hurry!  Mr. Nolting is looking great at QB and Peterson at running back… I’ve been watching him the last few years, and I think he might have been overshadowed a bit by Dylan Sawyers in Carson… but he’s an impressive back!  He’s tough to take down and he generates yards where it looks like there are none to me had!  A pretty easy win for Douglas tonight… good thing too cause the student fans cleared out quick to head off to a dance at the school!

Here are some shots from the night.  Tough lighting at DHS… I’ve been playing with a bunch of setting to try to get things “right”.  🙂

See all the shots from tonight in the school gallery.  Thanks for looking!Nolting aired one out early… gotta love when you “catch” it!  🙂I was just thinking the other day, I don’t have any helmet off photosGotta at least get one shot of Hug… I’ve got a very similar image against Carson of the same player…This fella is impressive!  Keep and eye on his performance this season, I’d guess some records are gonna fall this year!

Carson Douglas Baseball… the final meeting of the 2012 season…

The Last Carson Douglas game of the season ended with one team going on and the other ending their season… there were a lot of hits, a lot of base runners, some errors, a crowd that was active in the game… all the things that make an end of season tournament game exciting!

In the end Carson took the win from Douglas 7-6 to advance in the NIAA 4A Northern Regional Championships.  At 1:00 PM Tomorrow Carson will face Damonte Ranch who upset Manogue in the first round 1-0 and who lost today to the League Ranked #2 Reno High team today.  The 4:00 PM game at Carson tomorrow will be Galena vs. Manogue.

Here are some photos from today’s action.

My season shooting Douglas started with a very similar photo to this first one of Caleb Foster.  Stay tuned everyone… Caleb’s a freshman!

I needed a horizontal shot of TJ to replace a photo in “the book”….  Hope you like this one better TJ! 🙂We were all kinda scratching out heads on this play… 🙂  Sorry Carter…I just had to get that leg kick… trick is though he doesn’t do it when there are runners on base… so you have to watch and notice these types of things.… one of Senior Cody Begovich’s last at bats as a high school player…
Gonna pick on Carter a bit more… (Sorry Carter…)  This photo reminds me of a goalkeeper coach (soccer, and no, I didn’t play goalkeeper but when you’re young you learn all the positions…) that I had a VERY VERY long time ago (about ten year before these fellas were even born…)… but he said something that has stuck with me all this time… “… always make it look easy…”  I’ve included this photo to poke a little fun at Carter but also to make mention of what I’ll call some photographic luck.  Carson’s field sits such that the sun blasts in later in the afternoon making a lot of what you’re shooting backlit… So if you’re paying attention you can get a really cool rim light effect around a player from the sun… like in this photo, see the top of his arm and the side of his face, the top of his leg, his glove, etc… but here, the underside of his arm is being lit by his white pants reflecting back onto his arm, almost as if you were using a reflector or a light source to get some light there… kinda cool luck! (I know, photo geek stuff…)

Carson Douglas Baseball… @ Carson…

The rivalry series moved to Carson tonight, under the lights…  Carson got on the board in the first inning and kinda didn’t look back winning 6-1.  Some changes to the Douglas infield after yesterday’s game at Douglas…

Both teams have three days rest before a four games in four days end to the season… then playoffs!

Here are some shots from today…

A quick shout out to the Carson Douglas JV Teams… check out your school galleries, your photos are up, it’s just late, I have a league shoot tomorrow and need to get some sleep…

I have to single this photo out… Prom is tomorrow for Carson… Cole was showing the fellas his moves… still photos don’t do it justice, a video would have been much better… maybe next time!  🙂

Carson Douglas Baseball today… @ Douglas High…

The season is wrapping up in just over a week but there is no shortage of games left… most all the teams still have five games left… and the regular season is over in just 8 days… that’s a lot of baseball… this next week is going to take it’s toll on a lot of teams and right before playoffs…

Douglas hosted Carson today for their two day back to back games (@Carson tomorrow night under the lights 7:00 PM game…).  With the season getting down to the wire and with the middle section of the NIAA 4A Northern Region standings about as topsy-turvy as it can get with teams needing wins to stay in the hunt… game 1 of the Carson Douglas home and away was… well… it’s kinda hard to candy coat it… the game was ugly.  But a win is a win and Carson left Tiger Field with a 5-4 8th inning win.

I’m going to let the “journalists” write about this one… I’ll just put some photos up to show some of the shots I got today… click on them to make them larger… see all the images at the links on the side.

Come on out tomorrow to Carson under the lights!!  Should be a great evening of baseball!

Carson Douglas Softball today… @ Douglas High

Just a quick post with some photos… super busy right now trying to process all the league photos… so no game update other than a quick comment… it was a good stats day for Carson… runs, home runs, etc…  Carson Douglas Baseball is also later this week… Thursday @ Douglas (3:45) and Friday @ Carson under the lights (7:00).  Hope to see you out there!

Click on the images below for a larger version… found some cool angles to shoot the pitchers… (softball rules and the little media box on the field are ridiculous….)

I think this is my favorite shot of the day…

… add in a little slap action… (I first learned about this back in college dating a softball player (she was a ridiculously quick slapper…)… having NEVER been to a softball game before to experience this for the first time… it was quite an lesson… oh the things college exposes you to…) 🙂  I still think this is one of the most clever things in sports… done well and with control… you’re at least 1/2 way to first before they get to the ball… love it!

Round it out with Carson’s Senior Pitcher, who pitched every inning for Carson today…

Douglas Baseball vs. McQueen

The Tigers hosted McQueen this afternoon… the WIND… WOW!  So annoying, blowing so hard, just relentless… but the games must go on!  Again, I’m not any sort of a baseball “knowing” guy… but the game seem quite evenly matched, it ended 1-0 McQueen… There were hits, guys on base, but no one seemed to be able to move the runners home…  Douglas travels to McQueen on Thursday for the second half of their series…. Here are a few shots from the afternoon… more at the link on the side.  Click to see these larger….

Douglas vs. Manogue Varsity Baseball…

A strange game today… I’m always learning the rules, the strategies of the game, etc… today some strange things happened… and this is from my perspective… based on what I heard and saw… and I’m NO baseball expert by any stretch of the imagination….

Bottom of the 7th, Manogue 5-3, no outs… Douglas with runners on 1st and 2nd…  Batter pops the ball up… the Manogue shortstop and 3rd baseman loose the ball in the “ball colored” sky and it drops to the ground, apparently the field umpire called it an infield fly (but no one heard this…)(supposed to be an out… I don’t totally understand the entire idea behind this rule… but it’s a rule… ) the runners started advancing… the runner reaching third thought he was out by force… but if it’s and infield fly then it’s not a force… I’m confused just writing all of this…

Anyway… Douglas’ Manager was out to “discuss” this with the umpires… out he goes after a long “discussion”…. when we get back to baseball… Douglas now has two outs… Douglas puts another runner on, then drives them both in… tie game at 5… base hit, pinch runner, another single… the Douglas 3rd base coach sends the runner… a collision at home plate (see the photo below and in the Douglas gallery)… the Douglas runner touches home plate, ump calls him safe, game over… that’s the speed reader version… tensions high… fans chipping away too… time to exit stage right for me!

WOW that was a wild one!  Still not sure I exactly understand all of what I witnessed…

Here are some photos from the day!  🙂  The good stuff for me…  More photographic “editorial” comments below the photos… Click on the photos to see them larger….

Shooting at Douglas for these 11:00 AM games is a bit of a nightmare… but you get what you get when you shoot outdoor sports… The problem is the sun is blasting the field players from behind… so you have to accommodate for that which then blows out the sky… The batters will have a harsh shadow across some part of their face… The pitchers, when they stretch back you get part of them blasted with sun and part in the shade of their own body… then let’s add in some white pants… 🙂  Gotta love photography!  See you out at the fields soon!

High School Baseball today… @ Carson High… Carson/Douglas…

Four games today… I shot two and maybe 1/5th of them…  Carson High for two and Douglas for 1 1/5th… The sun went down so I played around a bit with shooting under the lights… ehhhh… is about all I can say for that… 🙂

Tough day for Carson… I’ll leave it at that… GREAT day for Douglas!

Two of the young fellas that when I first started shooting here in the Carson/Douglas area were on the Carson Valley Little League All Star teams are now Freshman starting on the Douglas Varsity Team… It’s really great to see them succeed at this level!

Here are a few of the shots I got of them today…

Here’s that late afternoon sun I talked about Thursday at Carson High…

Some more shots of the Douglas pitcher… Cody Begovich… he pitched quite well against Carson today!  Love that leg action!

I set up a remote camera today to “test” it out… I learned a lot… here’s a shot from the remote rig today…

… and a few shots of Carson today that I liked… 🙂  Rough day for the Senators!

Academic Excellence… Douglas High Boys Basketball!!

The Douglas High Boys Basketball team was awarded the NIAA Academic State Championship tonight for having the highest average GPA.  Well done fellas!!  I know you didn’t take the “glory” trophy and talking about being academic champions isn’t “sick”… blah blah blah… You’ve proven yourselves on the court, you’ve proven yourselves in the classroom… amazing job fellas!!  We’re all cheering for you!
