2015 NIAA Northern Region Football, Carson vs. Hug at Carson High

Very quick post tonight, it’s homecoming week so there are a lot of events going on… Soccer all day tomorrow at the school… 🙂

The team was fired up at the start tonight… homecoming week, there were a lot of things going on at the school and before the game… it was a pretty exciting atmosphere tonight… 150925_1519

A big congratulations to the entire homecoming court… it seems like just a few days ago I started photographing you all but it’s been eight years if you can believe that… all of you have grown up right before me… baseball, soccer, cheer, softball, football, volleyball, track, basketball… it’s been a lot of fun!150925_1846

OH, and a game happened tonight too!  The Carson Senators rolled to an easy victory over the Hug Hawks… the Hawks were without their starting quarterback, would have been nice to see him fit to play to see what they were capable of…

There were some impressive plays tonight… Abel Carter’s run early in the first quarter was impressive, one of the coaches was telling me seeing it from the booth, he wanted to see a replay of it because the cuts he made and the moves… going to be fun watching Abel for the next few years! Here he his making the fist touchdown run…150925_1432

2015 NIAA Northern Region Football, Carson vs. North Valleys at Carson High

Not pulling any punches here tonight… the Senators took it straight at North Valleys tonight and strolled away with a 45-7 win…  You can look through the photos from tonight’s game… a lot of defense shots of the line backers trying to make pretzels out of the the North Valleys players… of course there are some offensive shots too… Abel Carter breaking one open and running 90 yards for a touch down…

All that said… North Valleys is going to cause some anxiety in some teams this year… they did move the ball against the Senators, but when it got to the red zone, the Senators tightened up and stopped them frequently.

Here are some shots from the night…

2015 NIAA Northern Region Football, Carson vs. Reed at Mackay Stadium

The 2015 Northern Nevada High School Football Season has begun!  Tonight Carson and Reed had the privilege of playing under the lights at Mackay Stadium on the University of Nevada, Reno campus… (more on this later…).

Reed took things straight to Carson and racked up a good number of points in a very short period and easily defeated the Senators 44-27.

Here are some photos from the night.

A beautiful big full moon over the stadium tonight!Big and Bright, beautiful full moon over Reno, NV.

Mr. Denn took to the sky ALL night to night with a lot of passes, much more than I’m used to seeing at the high school level… Reed is going to score a lot of points this year… likely in preparation for meeting Bishop Gorman again in the State Championship again….150829_0179

This was not a common sight tonight… Reed running the ball….150829_0184

Just like this shot so I had to put it in… bodies flying….Carson Senator Joe Nelson being bought down by a Reed Defender. As nice as it was for the fellas to be able to play under the lights in Mackay Stadium… that was ALL they got to do… they couldn’t even go in the locker rooms at half time… kinda tacky UNR… not exactly the way to show potential future players what your program has to offer… I’m 100% positive if any of them go on a recruiting trip ANYWHERE they’ll at least be shown the locker room….

2015 NIAA Northern Region Division 1 Baseball, Carson High vs. Damonte Ranch High, April 23, 2015

Wow, what a game tonight at Carson High!  I think this one had a little of everything (including rain…) and for the Carson fans, the Senators took a win away from what was the only undefeated team in the North State!  The Senators won tonight 7-6 in the top of the 7th inning with Damonte leaving runners on base…

2015 NIAA Northern Region Division 1 Baseball, Carson High vs. Bishop Manogue, April 6, 2015

The Bishop Manogue Miners visited Carson High tonight for the second game of the series… The Miners were quite aggressive with their base running tonight and took advantage of most every opportunity to put up a run they had.  The Miners took the win at Carson tonight 10-3.

Here are a few shots from the night…

2015 NIAA Northern Region Division 1 Baseball, Bishop Manogue vs. Carson High, April 4, 2015

Boy, what a game! Hits, runs, home runs, stolen bases and even an ejection!  What a baseball game!  Carson visited Bishop Manogue today for the first of their home and away series with the Miners and walked away with a win, 7-6.  The Senators jumped out in front in the second inning 4-1 after their coach was ejected from the game…  Pretty shockingly (at least to me…) the NIAA scheduled an umpire with a previous ejection of a Carson High Coach at the end of last season… it quickly looked very reminiscent of that evening last spring…. if you’re going to be an umpire you need to have patience and pretty thick skin…

The game went down the the 7th inning and Manogue was battling but Carson relief pitcher, Senior Brandon Allen was able to battle through and get the last outs needed to give Carson the win.  The battle continues on Monday at 6:00 PM at Carson High.  Hope to see you out there!

Here are some shots from today’s game…

2015 NIAA Northern Region Division 1 Championships

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (The NIAA…) held the Northern Nevada Regional Championships at Carson High this week…

On the girls side, both League Champions faced off tonight, Reno vs. Bishop Manogue.  Reno didn’t seem to be able to match up well with Manogue’s pace and press and fell behind early and Manogue never looked back and cruised to a Regional Championship!

Congratulation Girls!  Good Luck in Vegas next week!150221_4639

This is how Manogue dealt with Mallory McGwire… shoot over her before she can approach for the block… I’d guess Mallory holds some shot block record if someone was keeping track, she’s a wicked shot block force in the middle!

LOVE the crowd!  What a great atmosphere tonight!150221_4556The boys game tipped off 45 minutes later than scheduled… multiple factors… First was the TV crew… the whole world revolves around TV you know… 🙂  The second and probably larger factor… there were so many people inside that they had to start turning people away that were waiting in line outside… the place was PACKED!!

The two teams that tied for first in the Sierra League were back on the floor tonight, Carson got the 1st place nod due to the tie break but Galena came in with something to prove and very quickly showed that.  Galena’s outside shooting game early in the first quarter was probably the nail in the coffin for Carson.  Galena jumped out to and early lead and Carson tried to claw back but the deficit was too great and couldn’t manage.  Galena will be headed to Vegas next week for the State Championships.

Congratulations and good luck in Vegas boys!

Shots like these helped Galena to the Championship!  Look at the crowd!!  Truly Awesome!150221_4714 150221_4718

2015 NIAA Northern Region Division 1 Rivalry Basketball, Carson vs. Douglas

I’m not sure there’s a better venue for big rivalry basketball games than the Carson High Gym.  The atmosphere is always amazing when the stands are full, the student sections are cheering and having goes at each other, it’s a great place to be!  If you are a pure basketball fan, last night’s boys varsity game left a lot to be desired (combined 33% shooting for both teams massive turnovers… not a night for the stats…) but the overall  atmosphere and the excitement was still worth the price of admission.  Carson pulled out the victory with a push in the second half that Douglas could not counter and Carson ran minutes off the clock passing the ball around to close out the game 37-29 (yes, that score is real…)

In the girls game the Douglas girls coasted to an easy victory 59-36.

All four teams will be going onto the playoffs, on Tuesday, Carson Boys will host North Valleys, Douglas Boys will travel to Spanish Springs.  Wednesday the Douglas girls will host North Valleys and Carson will travel to Reno.  First round playoff games are at 7:00 PM at the higher seed school. Region semifinals and championships will return to Carson High on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Here’s the link to the NIAA site for playoff info… NIAA Site

Here are some images from the night! You can ALWAYS count on a physical match up when these two teams hit the “playing field”… 🙂

We’ll likely see this same matchup come soccer season in the fall… 150213_4036 It seems like yesterday that Michelle (Carson) was running up and down this court as a freshman, now she’s heading out the doors!  Thanks for being such a good sport all the years Michelle! You are ALWAYS good for a fun facial expression!  It’s been fun, I was telling your dad the other day, there aren’t very many multi-sport ladies left at Carson High.  I wish you the best of luck!150213_4055 Melissa was the spark in Carson’s game… just not enough to overcome Douglas…150213_4057I’ve been covering Connor for years… I make the same comments every year, it’s amazing to see them “grown up” and moving on… Connor’s always played with a lot of heart, tonight was no different!  Best of luck to you Connor!
