Are you ready for some… Baseball!

I know, we’re looking at snow falling and I’m talking baseball… that’s High School Baseball in Northern Nevada!  There are supposed to be scrimmage games on March 5th… we’ll see what this current storm brings… and we’ll see if any of the schools can get their fields cleared…  Sounds crazy when I look out at the falling snow, but I’m ready for baseball season!!

Here’s some work from last season… still working on what I’m going to do this year…

NIAA Northern Region 4A Championships

Congratulations to the four teams competing in the NIAA Northern Region 4A Championships Saturday evening at the Carson High Gym!

In the Girl’s final, Reed High defeated a very pesky Galena High team.  The Galena girls kept themselves in the game right to the very end with a lot of hustle and determination… in the end it wasn’t quite enough and the Reed High Raiders will be heading to Vegas to represent the Northern Region this coming week, good luck ladies!

The boy’s final… when the public address announcer states “… please move closer to your neighbor to make room for the additional people arriving…” you know it’s going to be an exciting place to be.  Bishop Manogue faced Douglas… The Miners jumped out to a pretty big lead in the first half, really controlling the game, they seemed to have Douglas’ number… the second half Douglas cut the lead and were tied at times… but the baskets wouldn’t fall for the Tigers and the Miners controlled the ball wasting a great deal of valuable time for the Tigers… The Miners finally ended the game from the free throw line with their freshman being the “chosen one” to be fouled the most in the late part of the game to stop the clock and get the ball back for the Tigers.

All the teams should be very proud of their accomplishments this season.  For the Manogue and Douglas boys teams… playing in the Regional Championship in front of a packed house at a neutral location… that’s something special, it was a very impressive crowd last night, I hope you all had a second to take in the magnitude of the evening.

Here are some photos from the evening.  The Girl’s up first…

The marked “man” by the Reed team… though she still made things happen…

Hustle, hustle, hustle, the Galena Girls kept themselves in the game with hard work!

One of many drives to the basket…

Galena kept Reed off balance forcing them to make these types of shots…

A great feeling!

The boy’s tipoff!!  Check out the stands above the basket… that’s typically not even open during the season… (not even for the Carson/Douglas games…)

This is what the Douglas boys faced the entire night… no easy shots, Manogue challenged EVERYTHING…

NIAA Northern Divsion 4A Semifinals…!!! WOW!

If you like basketball… and you weren’t at the Carson High School Gym tonight you missed two AMAZING ball games!

Two games decided in the last 3 seconds…

The first Bishop Manogue vs. McQueen… by all reports Manogue looked flat compared to the last time these two met, McQueen came to play tonight!  It was a battle right down to the end with Manogue scoring the game winning bucket with pretty much no time left on the clock… in the photo of the game winning shot you can see the ball in his hand with 4.9 seconds on the clock…  After the Manogue crowd was chanting… “… we want Douglas, we want Douglas…”

Douglas did not disappoint… Douglas played Hug… double overtime… behind by two with 3.8 seconds on the clock, inbound at the half line… inbound, pass, pass, three pointer at the buzzer to win the game… bench cleared and the only thing keeping the Douglas fans from clearing to the floor was the Douglas and Carson administrative staff keeping people back…  What a game, no way you could have scripted one better than this…

Here are some pictures from tonight…  Even the Nevada Governor was in attendance…!

Austin had a big night tonight, breaking out on the wings and long passes up the court or steals and layup shots…

After hitting the three… what can you say?  This photo has the agony of defeat and the joy of triumph…

Mr. Brian Sandoval… Nevada’s Governor… out for a little Prep Basketball!

Douglas High Playoff Basketball…!!

I said this back on December 10, 2010… I really like watching and photographing this year’s Douglas High Boy’s Varsity Basketball team… they want to win, and they do something about it… hustle, hard work, team work, three pointers, rebounds, dunks!, they put Reno High away tonight 69-46 at the Douglas Gym… now it’s on to the Regional Semifinals at Carson High on Thursday… Douglas will play Hug High… here are a few photos from tonight.  Austin hit several threes and Hunter dunked… right in front of me, glad I got it…!  Check out the rest of the photos from the season… Douglas High Basketball

I’ll be at the Regional Semifinals as well as the final, good luck to all the teams playing!!

I don’t typically comment on the officials (and I’m not really going to… but), they have a tough job, I just thought this photo was humorous… this was called a jump ball…..

When you shoot a lot of sports you’re going to get “ump-ed”… the official will pass between you what you were hoping to photograph… typically you get a lot of black when you’re shooting down low like I do… in this case, the ref’s arm, torso and leg give this a nice vignette… so I didn’t have to… too bad the face is a bit soft…  Oh well, the perils of sports shooting!

Carson Boy’s Basketball… playoff…

The Carson High Boy’s Varsity season came to an end tonight at the hand of Damonte Ranch at Wooster… in the early going Carson built a bit of a lead but the pesky point guard of Damonte Ranch, who’s a really great player, kept chipping away and Damonte pulled away for the win.  Here are two photos from tonights game.  Check out all the action from the season here on the site… Carson High Basketball

Carson Basketball tonight…

Senior Night, Winterfest, Last home game for the regular season… there was a lot going on at Carson High tonight… and some Basketball too!  All four teams won tonight, some good basketball. Here are a few photos from the night… More on the site, click to the right on Carson High Athletics….

Just a quick note about this gal… this isn’t the greatest photo of her in the world but I think it captures the emotion of the night for many…  This gal is the manager/trainer of the Boy’s Varsity Team… as well, she was the manager of the Varsity Football Team… where they went, she was there, when they needed something, she was there… she will be very much missed, she gave tirelessly to these teams, I’m going to miss seeing her out there helping so much… I hope these young fellas give her a huge thank you for her efforts, she deserves it!

Carson/Douglas Basketball tonight…

Who would have thought that the Girl’s JV Basketball game would have been such a thriller!!  Double OT… Douglas squeaked it out by a point in the end…

The other three games, while they had their drama (like Matt Thomas dunking the ball and getting a technical called… for I’m assuming his “celebratory” ways after…)… but the scores were not so close for the rest of the games… Douglas winning the JV games, Carson winning the Girl’s Varsity and Douglas winning the Boy’s Varsity… here are some shots from the night… slow night for shots… I’ve built a pretty big gallery so I’m looking now for stuff that’s different and new…

How about these?

What do you do when you live in one place but work in the other… you write Douglas on one cheek VS on your forehead and Carson on the other!  Very clever fellas!

Block that shot!

Tip off of the Boy’s Varsity game… might possibly be the last meeting of these senior boys… not sure they’ll see each other in the playoffs….

Douglas Basketball tonight…

The Douglas Boy’s Varsity faced a tough Damonte Ranch team tonight… I’ve seen Damonte now twice and Douglas a few times… Damonte made it a game, they came to play… Douglas pulled it out in the end by a wider margin that it was with just two minutes to go but it was an exciting game… the crowd was into the game, it was a great atmosphere… take a look at the last image… the rivalry is coming next week!!!  These shirts made me laugh.

I also am playing with some wide angle shots… I’m hoping to capture some thing cool at the Carson/Douglas game next week… I need your help… so whichever side you’re on, get out there and pack those stands!!!  See you out there.

Sorry to run another Austin photo (two actually…)… he’s just so exciting to photograph… hopefully he’s seeing these too!

Tahoe Invitational Hockey Tournament…

Whew!  What a long, hard & cold weekend… we spent 60 hours at the South Tahoe Ice Arena from Friday morning to Monday afternoon…  Some great games!  Got to see my first hockey shootout…

By far my favorite photo of the event…  check out more in the gallery of the event.

Carson vs. Douglas Basketball…

What more can I say… even when you get a really strong squad, much like the Douglas Boy’s Varsity Team this year… the games between Carson and Douglas don’t disappoint, yesterday’s games were no different!  The fans even got into it across the court with taunts….  The stands were kinda full… not as many there to cheer as I hoped for but the atmosphere was good, the crowd was into the games, made it fun!

I don’t typically add color commentary to my sports viewing but… Carson Boy’s Varsity… when you finally made an attempt to rebound it paid off… in the first half your shots went up and at least four of the five of you ran AWAY from the basket…

The Douglas Boy’s Varsity once again was fun to watch… they really WANT to win, they play very hard and the results show… should be a good sign for the playoffs!!

Here’s a few shots from the marathon at Carson High’s Gym Saturday… click on your team to the right to see all the photos of your teams.
