A new experience for me… Carson High Bowling

A friend at Carson High mentioned to me, all the way back during football season… that he bowled for Carson High… well, I had NO idea Carson had a bowling team!  So after a lot of schedule conflicts I finally made it out to one of their “events”… and what an education!  Here are some images from last night… They may not want to remember yesterday’s match, although I’m guessing they’ll come back next year with some vengeance… but Carson lost last night 23-22 to the Reed High Bowlers…

For those of you that understand bowling and high school matches you “get” why this score is significant… for those of us bowling “ignorants”… they play a series of games, three vs. three, and they “share” ten frames rotating between the three players per team… after all these games are played the scorers then count the total number of pins knocked down… so you have win/loss per game then total pins knocked down… after all that counting, Reed came away with the win…. … and this is significant because Carson has won for the last 10 years… so a tough loss for Carson last night…

I took the whole family with me last night, we had a good time and would like to thank the bowlers and families for welcoming us!!  It’s always nice to be places where people are so great to be around!!

Here are some shots from the evening… the rest are at the link on the side for Carson High Athletics… (I’m hoping to be a little on the ball next time and get the organizers to let me put a remote camera down by the pins and shoot back at the bowlers… something to work on…)

I love how high this fella gets that follow through leg up… it’s above his head! 🙂

Well done everyone!  And a very big good luck to those moving on next year!!

Baseball Season is here!!!!

Do you know how I know Baseball Season is here?  It’s snowing!  🙂  I wonder what it’s like to NOT have snow the first week of baseball season….

Saturday I spent the day “playing around” with some new ideas… and I took a few photos at Carson’s tryouts…  stay tuned and see if I can make these ideas work…

Here are the shots that I kept from Saturday…. click on them to see them bigger.

NIAA 4A State Basketball Semifinals… more action… Reno High, Reed High, Hug High, Green Valley High

Here are some more images from last night’s NIAA State 4A Semifinals….

Tonight, the Reno Ladies face off against the Reed Ladies for the State Championship… they faced each other a week ago with Reed taking the Northern Region Title… who knows what tonight will bring, should be a great basketball game!!

The Bishop Gorman fellas face the Hug High fellas… this will be a very interesting match-up.  Hug nearly let the semifinal slip through their hands last night against Green Valley… a missed three pointer at essentially the buzzer last night by Green Valley secured Hug’s entry into the State Championship… but a lot of energy was expended getting to the two point win… Gorman had their starters out for most of the 4th quarter (and they played three hours earlier…) so tonight it going to be interesting… Hug is smaller and quick, Gorman… well, they’re big fellas AND quick… should be a treat for Northern Nevada fans at the games tonight!!

Douglas High Boys Basketball… off to the State Tournament Thursday @ UNR!

The Douglas Boys Basketball team faced a very good Hug High team tonight, they pulled close, even tying the game at one point but in the end it just wasn’t quite enough… Both teams will play Thursday at Lawlor Arena on the UNR Campus in the State Semifinal games… Douglas will play Bishop Gorman (Vegas) at 4:40 PM and Hug will play Green Valley (Vegas) at 8:00 PM.  The State 4A Championship will be Friday night @ 8:00 PM.  The 1A, 2A and 3A State Championships are also at Lawlor during this upcoming weekend…

Here are some shots from the night…

This one goes in my “… clearly the refs don’t get all the calls “right”…”  This was called an offensive foul agains Douglas (note the hand in the upper left corner…  I don’t recall that being “legal” 🙂   )

… and some action shots from the night… Good luck on Thursday Fellas!!

Douglas High Boys Basketball, First Round of Playoffs…

The Douglas Boys hosted McQueen tonight… they came away with a convincing 62-42 win.  Coach Thacker made full use of his entire squad swapping out the entire line up towards the end of the game with 5 fresh new players…  Douglas heads to Spanish Springs on Friday to meet Reed in the Regional Semifinal.

Here are a few shot from tonight… check out the season’s action at the Douglas High Athletics link on the side.

I was messing around before the game… and it appeared to be during dunk practice… I just got lucky I guess… they were all dunking… so here’s just one… many more at the link for DHS Athletics… 🙂

The atmosphere in the Douglas Gym is always great!  Their band is top notch, always playing great basketball game music, the students are always amped up and having fun… it’s just a fun place to be during games, it’s the type of environment that you would wish for as a player!  Something to be proud of DHS!!

… and of course, some game action!  🙂
