2014 NIAA Northern Region Championship Football, Carson vs. Reed
The 2014 NIAA Northern Regional Division 1 Championship was played today at Bishop Manogue High School. The Reed Raiders came away the winner of the game by three 28-25 after a back and forth battle between these two divisional powerhouse teams….
There will be plenty of words from the RGJ, the Nevada Appeal and the Sparks Tribune… so I’m going to go a completely different route with my post today…. No question I’m disappointed for the Carson fellas… I’ve been covering these young fellas since I first started in this area back in 2007… and as hard as this loss is today, I know there are a lot of lessons that will stick with these fellas for years to come because of this team. I know I’ll be seeing a lot of you in other sports this year but I wish all you graduating seniors the very best of luck with your future. You made a town proud!
There are 1,101 photos in the Carson High Varsity Football gallery for this year. It’s been quite a season fellas… we started this back on August 30th down in California. Thanks for the memories this year boys!
On to the photos from today… as I mentioned I’m going to take a completely different direction today… as I’m sure you could see there were A LOT of photographers on the field today… A LOT… one simple reason… that big bright thing in the sky… the sun. This was the first game this season that many of us have had the opportunity to shoot in daylight. It’s not quite like a ground hog but also not far off… 🙂 So because of that we all come out in packs… and I’m going to take this in even a more specific direction… the eyes… As I was going through all my images today I noticed that I have a lot of shots of the players eyes today, not close up per say but you can see the intensity, you can see the direction… you can see the communication the eyes give… so take a look and “see”… 🙂

2014 NIAA Northern Region Semifinal Football, Carson vs. Reno
I mentioned to someone today that I’m seeing a fire in the belly of these boys that I’ve not seen during my previous six years shooting Carson High Football…
Carson has given up 19 points in FIVE games, all of which were first team offense (opponents) against second team defense… 7 against Douglas, 6 against McQueen and 6 against Reno tonight… October 17th was the last points the first team defense gave up points… against Manogue… They’re on a roll to say the least!
I felt before the game that tonight would be another lopsided score… a lot of nervous parents around, wondering if it would be a close game… NOPE! Carson got off to a fast start and coasted to the Regional Championship next weekend against Reed.
Here are some photos from the night.

NIAA Northern Region Football First Round Playoffs, Carson vs. McQueen
Well… what can I say? Carson showed up to play and went about their business tonight… The fellas were talking on the sidelines about how many quarters it’s been since the starting defense has been scored on… Carson Varsity football has only given up 13 points in the last four games, all in the 4th quarter of games where they had a 42 point lead before they gave up the points with the first team defense on the sidelines.
Carson will host Reno and Reed will host Hug (who previously beat Reed…) next week in the Regional Semifinal games.
Here are a few photos from the evening.
Joe Nelson on the first drive, looking for his receivers downfield.
Asa Carter on his way to the end zone.
McQueen didn’t get many long plays past the Carson Defense… this early pass play was probably their longest single yardage play of the game. Carson closed it up after this one.
I just like the dynamics of the driving legs in this one!
Colby Brown driving for every last inch!

NIAA Northern Regional Championships, Soccer, Volleyball
November 8, 2014 will be a day remembered for the Douglas High Girls Athletics program! The photos will speak for themselves… Two Regional Champions crowned just hours apart, Girls Soccer and Volleyball… and plenty of smiles to go around!! Congrats ladies!! Good luck at State!
One more for Douglas!! down in Vegas… State Champion… Lindsay Adams took her second State Cross Country Championship! Congrats! Sorry for the year old photo… don’t have a newer one…
And last, but not least, the North Valleys Boys Soccer team won the NIAA Northern Region Championship today defeating Galena 2-0. Here’s one shot from that game with my remote goal cam… kinda fun!
A note to a very special friend…
Kyme… THANK YOU. Enjoy tonight… I’m sorry I cannot be there. I know the journey is not over but the road’s been fun, I feel very lucky to have been able to try to capture some of it for you, Eddie, Austin and of course Grandma. You’ve been very good to me and my family and I will forever be grateful.

NIAA Regional Girls Soccer… Douglas vs. Spanish Springs @ Carson High
It’s been a busy busy week (more in a few days, the week isn’t over yet…)… but I got to catch the NIAA Regional Girls Soccer match on Thursday night at Carson High between the Spanish Springs High Cougars and the Douglas High Tigers… The Douglas girls started quick, as in 19 seconds into the game they fired their first shot on goal… Douglas walked a way with a 4-1 win and ended with most of their starters resting on the bench. Douglas will play Galena who went into penalty kicks (so they played the equivalent of an extra half of play… then kicks…) against Bishop Manogue. The Regional Championship will be at Damonte Ranch High School at Noon on Saturday, November 8, 2014.
Here are a few shots from the night…
Sometimes you make mistakes… but sometimes it comes pretty cool… well in a photo geeky kinda way I guess! 🙂
I liked the “drive” of the players here… I can feel them moving… 🙂
I’ve been shooting McKenna for quite a few years and there’s no doubt she’s a goal scorer, look at the focus on watching the ball… need to show all the youth players this… watching the ball as you strike through it… you hit it well, you’ll have plenty of time to celebrate it going in the goal… just as it did here!
NIAA Soccer… Carson Vs. Douglas at Carson High
Just a few quick photos from some recent games… the galleries for Carson High Soccer and Douglas High Soccer are up to date… Also checkout our YouTube channel… just posted some clips from the Carson Douglas Boys Soccer game from Wednesday night… here’s an example…
Photos from the girls game…
Of course it was going to be a battle… it’s Carson Douglas! 🙂

At the final whistle… the nail in the coffin… Douglas 2 Carson 0… now onto the playoffs for both teams. Douglas will play at home and Carson will travel, both games Tuesday night.

2014 NIAA Northern Region Football, Carson vs. Galena @ Galena High
What can I say? Carson ROLLED Galena tonight! 34-0… second shutout in as many weeks. Carson made some big plays, stopped Galena when they needed to and rolled to an easy victory.
Here are some images from the night… instead of a 1, 2 punch how about a 10, 11 punch… Ian Schulz and Nolan Shine “flying” after the Galena Quarterback…
Love these shots where you can see the eyes and the intensity of where he’s looking! Colby bowled himself a few more touchdowns tonight!
I can remember two Galena plays the whole night, it also helps that they were both deep pass plays and I got both on “film”… 🙂 I’m not a football expert but that hand in the face looks like pretty good coverage to me… to come down with that one was tough.
What in the heck is going on here… not trying to pick on you Connor… but where’d the ball go and what’s up with that leg… don’t know if that hurts to look at or what!?!?!?
OK, some of you may have noticed that I had some dorky looking thing on my forehead… well, I tried something tonight and it’s too late or I’d start messing with it… but I’m hoping to have a Point of View (POV) time lapse of “a night shooting football”… not sure if it will come out but I had a GoPro strapped to my head tonight so it might give you a glimpse of what I’m looking at and shooting… more details to follow if it turns out to be something worthwhile. 🙂 Might even have some cool video from it… will have to take a look later… Thanks for taking a photo of me DJ!!
