This is kinda cool! This butterfly shot of mine was picked as the March Winner of #AdoramaU’s contest! Check out more details about their contests here… http://bit.ly/1aQKfW3

Wow, what a game tonight at Carson High! I think this one had a little of everything (including rain…) and for the Carson fans, the Senators took a win away from what was the only undefeated team in the North State! The Senators won tonight 7-6 in the top of the 7th inning with Damonte leaving runners on base…
Here are some images from the night, check the galleries to the left under Current Events for more shots from the game.

The Bishop Manogue Miners visited Carson High tonight for the second game of the series… The Miners were quite aggressive with their base running tonight and took advantage of most every opportunity to put up a run they had. The Miners took the win at Carson tonight 10-3.
Here are a few shots from the night…
Not sure why exactly yet, I just like this shot…
Manogue’s Middle Infield, Lucas Howard at second…
… and Web Charles at shortstop…
Terek Been awaiting the ball for an out…
Boy, what a game! Hits, runs, home runs, stolen bases and even an ejection! What a baseball game! Carson visited Bishop Manogue today for the first of their home and away series with the Miners and walked away with a win, 7-6. The Senators jumped out in front in the second inning 4-1 after their coach was ejected from the game… Pretty shockingly (at least to me…) the NIAA scheduled an umpire with a previous ejection of a Carson High Coach at the end of last season… it quickly looked very reminiscent of that evening last spring…. if you’re going to be an umpire you need to have patience and pretty thick skin…
The game went down the the 7th inning and Manogue was battling but Carson relief pitcher, Senior Brandon Allen was able to battle through and get the last outs needed to give Carson the win. The battle continues on Monday at 6:00 PM at Carson High. Hope to see you out there!
Here are some shots from today’s game…

Bishop Manogue Miner Pitcher Alec West-Guillen, LOVE his facial expressions when he’s pitching!Carson Senator Senior Brandon Allen leading his team onto the scoreboard in the second inning!
I always wonder what they’re saying… 🙂
Manogue has turf on the infield, the one thing photographically you loose when there’s no dirt infield is that little puff of dirt when the ball hits the glove… have to get that Monday night instead @ Carson.
Jesse Lopez fielding a ball in left field.
Brandon Allen tagging Anthony Galati out at third base.
I love Manogue’s scoreboard… makes a nice background for Webb Charles as he throws to first for an out.
The forces of baseball… even on a young person’s arm… love the face Connor Pradere, so much focus!
Senior Senator Brandon Allen getting it done on the mound…
I love side arm guys… they’re body goes into the most graceful of positions… he looks like the π (pi) symbol to me… even has the little kick up of the front foot… 🙂 Manogue Pitcher Benjamin Rawlins.
The Northern Nevada NIAA High School Baseball and Softball seasons are here!! Much more to follow but here are some shots from some of the opening games of the season at Carson High.
Bailey Allen getting the bats going for the Carson Senators.
University of Nevada, Reno bound Kaleb Foster… it’s funny listening to the opposite teams talk about Kaleb… no one dares run on him. 🙂 I love his glance here to keep his eye on things.
Josiah Pongasi taking care of business at shortstop.
Turner Gustafson in the late afternoon sun throws to first.
A new face behind the dish for the Carson Senators, Brandon Allen.
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (The NIAA…) held the Northern Nevada Regional Championships at Carson High this week…
On the girls side, both League Champions faced off tonight, Reno vs. Bishop Manogue. Reno didn’t seem to be able to match up well with Manogue’s pace and press and fell behind early and Manogue never looked back and cruised to a Regional Championship!
Congratulation Girls! Good Luck in Vegas next week!
This is how Manogue dealt with Mallory McGwire… shoot over her before she can approach for the block… I’d guess Mallory holds some shot block record if someone was keeping track, she’s a wicked shot block force in the middle!
LOVE the crowd! What a great atmosphere tonight!
The boys game tipped off 45 minutes later than scheduled… multiple factors… First was the TV crew… the whole world revolves around TV you know… 🙂 The second and probably larger factor… there were so many people inside that they had to start turning people away that were waiting in line outside… the place was PACKED!!
The two teams that tied for first in the Sierra League were back on the floor tonight, Carson got the 1st place nod due to the tie break but Galena came in with something to prove and very quickly showed that. Galena’s outside shooting game early in the first quarter was probably the nail in the coffin for Carson. Galena jumped out to and early lead and Carson tried to claw back but the deficit was too great and couldn’t manage. Galena will be headed to Vegas next week for the State Championships.
Congratulations and good luck in Vegas boys!
Shots like these helped Galena to the Championship! Look at the crowd!! Truly Awesome!

I’m not sure there’s a better venue for big rivalry basketball games than the Carson High Gym. The atmosphere is always amazing when the stands are full, the student sections are cheering and having goes at each other, it’s a great place to be! If you are a pure basketball fan, last night’s boys varsity game left a lot to be desired (combined 33% shooting for both teams massive turnovers… not a night for the stats…) but the overall atmosphere and the excitement was still worth the price of admission. Carson pulled out the victory with a push in the second half that Douglas could not counter and Carson ran minutes off the clock passing the ball around to close out the game 37-29 (yes, that score is real…)
In the girls game the Douglas girls coasted to an easy victory 59-36.
All four teams will be going onto the playoffs, on Tuesday, Carson Boys will host North Valleys, Douglas Boys will travel to Spanish Springs. Wednesday the Douglas girls will host North Valleys and Carson will travel to Reno. First round playoff games are at 7:00 PM at the higher seed school. Region semifinals and championships will return to Carson High on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Here’s the link to the NIAA site for playoff info… NIAA Site
Here are some images from the night! You can ALWAYS count on a physical match up when these two teams hit the “playing field”… 🙂
We’ll likely see this same matchup come soccer season in the fall…
It seems like yesterday that Michelle (Carson) was running up and down this court as a freshman, now she’s heading out the doors! Thanks for being such a good sport all the years Michelle! You are ALWAYS good for a fun facial expression! It’s been fun, I was telling your dad the other day, there aren’t very many multi-sport ladies left at Carson High. I wish you the best of luck!
Melissa was the spark in Carson’s game… just not enough to overcome Douglas…
I’ve been covering Connor for years… I make the same comments every year, it’s amazing to see them “grown up” and moving on… Connor’s always played with a lot of heart, tonight was no different! Best of luck to you Connor!
THIS is rivalry basketball… on the floor battling for the ball!
I was playing around with an angle viewfinder. It’s a periscope kinda idea, allows you to put the camera lower than it would normally be at your eye level and you look down through… Gotta love the packed house and hard play at a Carson Douglas game!
Kyle Steel shooting from outside, gotta love that packed house in the background!
Cameron Price made his mark on this game inside during the second half.
On Saturday, December 9th I had the pleasure of shooting the NIAA State Championship football game for the Las Vegas Sun… here are the photos I shot for the paper… Here’s their article Las Vegas Sun
The 2014 NIAA Northern Regional Division 1 Championship was played today at Bishop Manogue High School. The Reed Raiders came away the winner of the game by three 28-25 after a back and forth battle between these two divisional powerhouse teams….
There will be plenty of words from the RGJ, the Nevada Appeal and the Sparks Tribune… so I’m going to go a completely different route with my post today…. No question I’m disappointed for the Carson fellas… I’ve been covering these young fellas since I first started in this area back in 2007… and as hard as this loss is today, I know there are a lot of lessons that will stick with these fellas for years to come because of this team. I know I’ll be seeing a lot of you in other sports this year but I wish all you graduating seniors the very best of luck with your future. You made a town proud!
There are 1,101 photos in the Carson High Varsity Football gallery for this year. It’s been quite a season fellas… we started this back on August 30th down in California. Thanks for the memories this year boys!
On to the photos from today… as I mentioned I’m going to take a completely different direction today… as I’m sure you could see there were A LOT of photographers on the field today… A LOT… one simple reason… that big bright thing in the sky… the sun. This was the first game this season that many of us have had the opportunity to shoot in daylight. It’s not quite like a ground hog but also not far off… 🙂 So because of that we all come out in packs… and I’m going to take this in even a more specific direction… the eyes… As I was going through all my images today I noticed that I have a lot of shots of the players eyes today, not close up per say but you can see the intensity, you can see the direction… you can see the communication the eyes give… so take a look and “see”… 🙂
