Congratulations to the four teams competing in the NIAA Northern Region 4A Championships Saturday evening at the Carson High Gym!
In the Girl’s final, Reed High defeated a very pesky Galena High team. The Galena girls kept themselves in the game right to the very end with a lot of hustle and determination… in the end it wasn’t quite enough and the Reed High Raiders will be heading to Vegas to represent the Northern Region this coming week, good luck ladies!
The boy’s final… when the public address announcer states “… please move closer to your neighbor to make room for the additional people arriving…” you know it’s going to be an exciting place to be. Bishop Manogue faced Douglas… The Miners jumped out to a pretty big lead in the first half, really controlling the game, they seemed to have Douglas’ number… the second half Douglas cut the lead and were tied at times… but the baskets wouldn’t fall for the Tigers and the Miners controlled the ball wasting a great deal of valuable time for the Tigers… The Miners finally ended the game from the free throw line with their freshman being the “chosen one” to be fouled the most in the late part of the game to stop the clock and get the ball back for the Tigers.
All the teams should be very proud of their accomplishments this season. For the Manogue and Douglas boys teams… playing in the Regional Championship in front of a packed house at a neutral location… that’s something special, it was a very impressive crowd last night, I hope you all had a second to take in the magnitude of the evening.
Here are some photos from the evening. The Girl’s up first…
The marked “man” by the Reed team… though she still made things happen…
Hustle, hustle, hustle, the Galena Girls kept themselves in the game with hard work!
One of many drives to the basket…
Galena kept Reed off balance forcing them to make these types of shots…
A great feeling!
The boy’s tipoff!! Check out the stands above the basket… that’s typically not even open during the season… (not even for the Carson/Douglas games…)
This is what the Douglas boys faced the entire night… no easy shots, Manogue challenged EVERYTHING…
