Carson High Baseball… vs. Reno High

Hands down, the worst miserable nasty weather today… at least for shooting baseball!  Come on Mother Nature… give the “breeze” a break!

Not a great day for Carson High Baseball… I decided to try some new stuff today, play around with a longer lens, shoot a little tighter, just mess around… boy do I wish the weather had been ANY bit nicer… I’m still cold and I left the park nearly three hours ago…

So here’s some stuff from the game… I just had to shoot the catcher for Reno, I’m a sucker for color and not much looks better than red, white and blue…

… back to the Carson fellas… like I mentioned, tried some tighter shooting… just messing around… there are now 504 images of the Varsity team on the site for 2012… I’m always anxious for feedback.  🙂

Had to have a little “conference” on the mound… defense wasn’t Carson’s strong point today…

Dion Squared…

Tyler in the game in the later innings…

… some pinch hitters in the bottom of the 7th… made a rally… but Reno had built a pretty sizable lead by then…

Carson High Baseball… vs. North Valleys

Today Carson completed the series sweep of North Valleys at home.  The game started out slowly… With the game tied 1-1, and Carson without a hit going into the 5th then things finally turned their way… 7 hits later and some aggressive base running we’re heading home 11-1…

Here are some hitting shots from the afternoon… I was late to the game today because I was working with the Track team… so not many photos from today… but some of the hits that made the win happen!  More from the season at the link on the side.

Casey laying down a bunt… which advanced two runners!

Nick smacking one deep into the outfield for a triple!

Douglas Baseball vs. McQueen

The Tigers hosted McQueen this afternoon… the WIND… WOW!  So annoying, blowing so hard, just relentless… but the games must go on!  Again, I’m not any sort of a baseball “knowing” guy… but the game seem quite evenly matched, it ended 1-0 McQueen… There were hits, guys on base, but no one seemed to be able to move the runners home…  Douglas travels to McQueen on Thursday for the second half of their series…. Here are a few shots from the afternoon… more at the link on the side.  Click to see these larger….

Douglas vs. Manogue Varsity Baseball…

A strange game today… I’m always learning the rules, the strategies of the game, etc… today some strange things happened… and this is from my perspective… based on what I heard and saw… and I’m NO baseball expert by any stretch of the imagination….

Bottom of the 7th, Manogue 5-3, no outs… Douglas with runners on 1st and 2nd…  Batter pops the ball up… the Manogue shortstop and 3rd baseman loose the ball in the “ball colored” sky and it drops to the ground, apparently the field umpire called it an infield fly (but no one heard this…)(supposed to be an out… I don’t totally understand the entire idea behind this rule… but it’s a rule… ) the runners started advancing… the runner reaching third thought he was out by force… but if it’s and infield fly then it’s not a force… I’m confused just writing all of this…

Anyway… Douglas’ Manager was out to “discuss” this with the umpires… out he goes after a long “discussion”…. when we get back to baseball… Douglas now has two outs… Douglas puts another runner on, then drives them both in… tie game at 5… base hit, pinch runner, another single… the Douglas 3rd base coach sends the runner… a collision at home plate (see the photo below and in the Douglas gallery)… the Douglas runner touches home plate, ump calls him safe, game over… that’s the speed reader version… tensions high… fans chipping away too… time to exit stage right for me!

WOW that was a wild one!  Still not sure I exactly understand all of what I witnessed…

Here are some photos from the day!  🙂  The good stuff for me…  More photographic “editorial” comments below the photos… Click on the photos to see them larger….

Shooting at Douglas for these 11:00 AM games is a bit of a nightmare… but you get what you get when you shoot outdoor sports… The problem is the sun is blasting the field players from behind… so you have to accommodate for that which then blows out the sky… The batters will have a harsh shadow across some part of their face… The pitchers, when they stretch back you get part of them blasted with sun and part in the shade of their own body… then let’s add in some white pants… 🙂  Gotta love photography!  See you out at the fields soon!

Carson High Baseball… vs. Wooster

The Carson High Baseball team took two league wins this week from Wooster to improve to 5-3 on the season.  After trailing for most of the game Carson pulled out an 8th inning series of hits, with a touch of help from Wooster, to win 4-3.

Here are some shot from tonights game…

First up… Casey’s “Wooster aided” double… the throw to first didn’t hit the spot and off to second base Casey went… I’ve been trying to get this kind of shot for sometime… glad it had some significance when I did!!  🙂

Casey’s double was followed by Charlie’s hit… the game winning hit… no ball in this one but still I think kinda a cool shot…

The fellas were kneeling behind the mound as Gehrig Tucker warmed up late in the game…

Some shots from the game…

High School Baseball today… @ Carson High… Carson/Douglas…

Four games today… I shot two and maybe 1/5th of them…  Carson High for two and Douglas for 1 1/5th… The sun went down so I played around a bit with shooting under the lights… ehhhh… is about all I can say for that… 🙂

Tough day for Carson… I’ll leave it at that… GREAT day for Douglas!

Two of the young fellas that when I first started shooting here in the Carson/Douglas area were on the Carson Valley Little League All Star teams are now Freshman starting on the Douglas Varsity Team… It’s really great to see them succeed at this level!

Here are a few of the shots I got of them today…

Here’s that late afternoon sun I talked about Thursday at Carson High…

Some more shots of the Douglas pitcher… Cody Begovich… he pitched quite well against Carson today!  Love that leg action!

I set up a remote camera today to “test” it out… I learned a lot… here’s a shot from the remote rig today…

… and a few shots of Carson today that I liked… 🙂  Rough day for the Senators!

I AM ready for some BASEBALL!!! Carson High Baseball today!

The weather… well, I’m speaking softly so as to not alert Mother Nature that it’s BASEBALL SEASON!!!  The weather was amazing tonight… a bit breezy but the sun was out… this opening tournament should see great weather throughout!!

Carson High kicked off their season today at home in the Mike Bearman Memorial Tournament against Fallon.  Carson won… I don’t honestly remember the score… (I should be better about that… opps…)  It’s opening day for me too… gotta get the cobwebs out… 🙂  (… it hasn’t helped being sick for the last three weeks…) and I’m shooting this season with some “new to this season” equipment… I’m anxious to hear any feedback… 🙂

So… why you really came to the site… here are some photos from today… more in the gallery on the side…

Carson is up at Spanish Springs and Reed tomorrow and then back home at 10:00 AM (Elko) and 3:00 PM (Douglas) on Saturday for the tournament wrap up.

See you out at the ball park!!  It’s BASEBALL SEASON!!!

Here’s a little gallery… click to see them larger…

The way the Carson High field sits… typically you get pretty hard shadows for baseball… but right as the sun is setting you can get some really nice warm light on the pitcher… like this one of Tyler…

2012 NorCal Mite Jamboree… South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena

This past weekend the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena (and Tahoe Sports & Entertainment) hosted the 2012 Mite Jamboree Hockey Tournament.  Saturday the played three simultaneous games cross ice, this was something completely new for me shooting… can’t say I was a big fan as it meant throwing out all I know about shooting hockey and more or less just winging it for the day… each team played six 20 minute games with a running clock and shift changes every two minutes…  Sunday went back to “normal” hockey.  I say “normal” because there were some kids playing for different teams but still in their own team jersey… that was interesting, there were times when there were up to three different team jerseys on the ice at one time…. 🙂

Always fun to watch and shoot… here are some images from the weekend… the gallery can be found at the link on the side or under League & Events under Hockey Tournaments.

A “clank” off the post for a GOAL!!!!

… and here’s some great after dinner debate… is that puck hitting his stick?  🙂
