CAHA Pee Wee AAA State Championship Hockey Tournament

This past weekend the California Amateur Hockey Association held their Pee Wee AAA State Championship Tournament at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. The Las Angeles Jr Kings, Las Angeles Select Hockey and San Jose Jr Sharks were represented.

The three teams played each other twice with the Championship on Sunday morning.  Chris with Tahoe Sports & Entertainment was the local host for some great hockey!  The LA Selects came away with the Championship…  All three teams are now off to Quebec for an international Pee Wee tournament.

Here are some “shots” from the weekend.  Check out more at the link on the side. Click on the images here to make them larger….

Douglas High Basketball… January 31, 2013

Basketball @ Douglas High tonight, vs. Reno… Check out all the images from the night at the link under Current Events…

First… a VERY big Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Coach Werner Christen!! He is now the winningest coach to ever coach at Douglas High… Great stuff Coach!!

I do believe this is a smiling Tiger… a result of the Varsity Boys game!  🙂 The Douglas Boys got out to a significant lead in the first half… the ever hyped Douglas Rooting Section chanting “single digits, single digits” just before the half…  Reno pulled closer as the game went on but they never had a chance as Douglas coasted to a win….

Carson Douglas Basketball @ Carson January 27, 2012

Carson Douglas Rivalry Basketball tonight at Carson High… There was a lot of “action” in the Boys JV game… 🙂  I’ll leave it at that… (sorry guys, I DO NOT have a photo of the “action” either… too many bodies in the way…)

The Carson Girls Varsity won and the Douglas Boys Varsity won… the Boys Varsity game went into overtime!!  What a HUGE turnaround from the CHS/DHS game at Douglas!!  Here are some photos from the night (click on them to see them bigger)… there are more at the link on the side.

Douglas Basketball vs. Spanish Springs… WOW!!!

Douglas High hosted Spanish Springs tonight… all I can say for the ending of the boys varsity game is WOW!!! WOW!!!! 1.5 seconds left in OT Douglas tips in a bucket for a two point lead, the clock wasn’t stopped so the refs talked and put 1.5 seconds back on the clock… Spanish Springs inbounds right in front of me… up to half… Hail Mary… SWISH!!! Buzzer beater 3 point to win it… Shock… that’s about all that I can say for the Douglas crowd… these two teams will see each other again for sure later in the playoffs… what a game!!

Don’t know how many 3’s this fella hit tonight… they kept leaving him alone out there and he kept hitting them… brought Douglas right back into the game in the second half…

Battle of the big guys tonight… Spanish Springs has some big fellas inside… Hunter’s body “control” at the end got the best of them though…

I’ve told several people, for last school year… so the 2010-2011 year… Hunter was my favorite athlete to photograph… the reason is simple… this kid WANTS TO WIN!!  The fire in the belly, the desire to beat the other team, the passion for the game… I LOVE that stuff… and I don’t see enough of it… but this guy, this team, I love watching!!

One shot from the Girls game earlier in the night… I just liked the shot… 🙂

Hockey Hockey Hockey!!! South Tahoe Hockey Invitational Tournament

Four days, 40 games, 56.5 hours on the ice… THAT’S a weekend!  Straight to the “shots”… 🙂  (you can find the rest of the images at the link under current events or under Leagues & Events)

Here’s a little gallery first… click to make them bigger.

And I want to make mention of four particular people at the tournament… the first is a young fella… he plays AND he refs… here he is in action… in both uniforms!  Well done Travis!!

And the other three fellas… are coaches.

A very special three fellas in my book.  They coached three of the four Oakland Bears teams… yes, the three coaches coached three teams!  They were not only a blast to be around… but if my kids were to ever play hockey, I would want these three guys to be their coaches.  I see a lot of games (a lot of different sports…), I see a lot of coaches… these three are a special class act, and I told them so.  AMAZING with the kids… as a parent, I’m still analyzing how they interacted with the kids, very positive, very supportive… they didn’t baby the players, they came down on them hard when they needed, but they followed it with “… I know you’re better than that, now get back out there and show me what I know you are capable of…”.  After I see and hear this on the bench and then watch the kids respond on the ice… it puts my faith back into sports, that it’s not all about the prima donna pretty boys and the selfishness we see in some people…. It’s for reasons like this that I have the best job, to spend my days with people like this!  I hope our paths cross again fellas, I very much enjoyed being out there with you guys coaching!  And because I know you don’t hear it often… thank you for what you do, I think you’re doing an amazing job.  I know these young folks you’re working with will also someday look back and know they were involved with some special coaches… and hopefully they’ll pass it on!  Kudos to you fellas!!

New Collage Designs!!

TWO new designs for 2012!!  Look for more examples as we get further into the action season of each sport!!

The first design is the Stripe Pano Poster.  This has three images, one is faded in the background at the top, a “feature” that has ONLY shown up in last year’s Black Frame Pano Poster and our Custom Collage product.  It’s so popular I wanted to incorporate it in again with this design. As you can see, this new design is vertical but can also be horizontal depending on the images used.

Here are two samples…

And a new Template Collage… The Album…  This is a very simple design with large images… and of course your athlete’s name and the year.

Here are two samples… (I kept the same images as above to show you the flexibility of the templates.)

Carson High Basketball… vs. Wooster

Straight to the photos tonight!  The Varsity Girls won, the Varsity Boys lost…

I was messing around with a fisheye tonight during the JV Boys game… Shoot me a comment if you like it… the black in the corners is because I’m using a “crop” bodied camera… if this was a full frame camera the image would be round… stay tuned for that…

Onto the game action… more “playing” at the very end…

So I had this idea with another lens… didn’t have it tonight so I thought I’d at least play a bit to see what I could get… this happens to be a Rafe free throw… pretty good chance it will go in with him shooting!  🙂

The blur in the net and ball is because the shutter speed of the camera is low… this photo also shows the lack of “fans” in the stands… so I might be trying this again later with some “ambiance” in the background… 🙂  See you next time!
