2015 NIAA Northern Region Division 1 Championships

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (The NIAA…) held the Northern Nevada Regional Championships at Carson High this week…

On the girls side, both League Champions faced off tonight, Reno vs. Bishop Manogue.  Reno didn’t seem to be able to match up well with Manogue’s pace and press and fell behind early and Manogue never looked back and cruised to a Regional Championship!

Congratulation Girls!  Good Luck in Vegas next week!150221_4639

This is how Manogue dealt with Mallory McGwire… shoot over her before she can approach for the block… I’d guess Mallory holds some shot block record if someone was keeping track, she’s a wicked shot block force in the middle!

LOVE the crowd!  What a great atmosphere tonight!150221_4556The boys game tipped off 45 minutes later than scheduled… multiple factors… First was the TV crew… the whole world revolves around TV you know… 🙂  The second and probably larger factor… there were so many people inside that they had to start turning people away that were waiting in line outside… the place was PACKED!!

The two teams that tied for first in the Sierra League were back on the floor tonight, Carson got the 1st place nod due to the tie break but Galena came in with something to prove and very quickly showed that.  Galena’s outside shooting game early in the first quarter was probably the nail in the coffin for Carson.  Galena jumped out to and early lead and Carson tried to claw back but the deficit was too great and couldn’t manage.  Galena will be headed to Vegas next week for the State Championships.

Congratulations and good luck in Vegas boys!

Shots like these helped Galena to the Championship!  Look at the crowd!!  Truly Awesome!150221_4714 150221_4718

2015 NIAA Northern Region Division 1 Rivalry Basketball, Carson vs. Douglas

I’m not sure there’s a better venue for big rivalry basketball games than the Carson High Gym.  The atmosphere is always amazing when the stands are full, the student sections are cheering and having goes at each other, it’s a great place to be!  If you are a pure basketball fan, last night’s boys varsity game left a lot to be desired (combined 33% shooting for both teams massive turnovers… not a night for the stats…) but the overall  atmosphere and the excitement was still worth the price of admission.  Carson pulled out the victory with a push in the second half that Douglas could not counter and Carson ran minutes off the clock passing the ball around to close out the game 37-29 (yes, that score is real…)

In the girls game the Douglas girls coasted to an easy victory 59-36.

All four teams will be going onto the playoffs, on Tuesday, Carson Boys will host North Valleys, Douglas Boys will travel to Spanish Springs.  Wednesday the Douglas girls will host North Valleys and Carson will travel to Reno.  First round playoff games are at 7:00 PM at the higher seed school. Region semifinals and championships will return to Carson High on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Here’s the link to the NIAA site for playoff info… NIAA Site

Here are some images from the night! You can ALWAYS count on a physical match up when these two teams hit the “playing field”… 🙂

We’ll likely see this same matchup come soccer season in the fall… 150213_4036 It seems like yesterday that Michelle (Carson) was running up and down this court as a freshman, now she’s heading out the doors!  Thanks for being such a good sport all the years Michelle! You are ALWAYS good for a fun facial expression!  It’s been fun, I was telling your dad the other day, there aren’t very many multi-sport ladies left at Carson High.  I wish you the best of luck!150213_4055 Melissa was the spark in Carson’s game… just not enough to overcome Douglas…150213_4057I’ve been covering Connor for years… I make the same comments every year, it’s amazing to see them “grown up” and moving on… Connor’s always played with a lot of heart, tonight was no different!  Best of luck to you Connor!
150213_4075 THIS is rivalry basketball… on the floor battling for the ball!150213_4078 I was playing around with an angle viewfinder.  It’s a periscope kinda idea, allows you to put the camera lower than it would normally be at your eye level and you look down through… Gotta love the packed house and hard play at a Carson Douglas game!150213_4083 Kyle Steel shooting from outside, gotta love that packed house in the background!150213_4101 Cameron Price made his mark on this game inside during the second half.150213_4117

2014-2015 NBA D-League, Reno Bighorns vs. Bakersfield Jam, February 8, 2015

Tough loss for the Bighorns tonight 139-137 to the Bakersfield Jam.  The Jam are in first place in the West right now so the win would have helped the Bighorns in the standings a wee touch…

The game went down to some last second heroics of Bakersfield’s Archie Goodwin, he finished with 35 points on the night so he certainly made his mark on the game, right down to the last three seconds and the game winning bucket.

Here are the images…

2014-2015 NBA D-League, Reno Bighorns vs. Oklahoma City Blue, February 7, 2015

I had to miss the game on Tuesday, 103.5 degree fever… never had that before, it’s awful, AWFUL!  Hope you all stay healthy this season!!

The Blues tried to throw off the Bighorns tonight by shooting the other direction during warm ups… and I’ll say, it’s worked in the past but I think it just pissed off the Bighorns tonight because they walked away with a 124-95 win.  Here are some images from the night!

2014-2015 NBA D-League, Reno Bighorns vs. Santa Cruz Warriors, January 31, 2015

Back to back nights… The Bighorns rebounded tonight with a big win over 2nd place Santa Cruz… 157-132… but the bigger news… The Bighorns broke the NBA D-League record for the number of three point shots made in a single game!!!  The record is now 31! WOW!! #weloveourbighorns

They’re back on the court Thursday, February 5th, Saturday, Feb 7th and Sunday, February 8th before they go back on the road for next week.

2014-2015 NBA D-League, Reno Bighorns vs. Santa Cruz Warriors, January 30, 2015

Between the NBA D-League showcase in Santa Cruz, road trips, conventions and my sick kids, it’s been a few weeks since I’ve been able to get to another Reno Bighorns game!  For the Friday, January 30th game I set up a remote camera behind the backboard, got quite a few pretty good shots from there this time… nothing posted on www.zuma24.com this time, gotta keep trying!

The Bighorns picked up a few new players after the Showcase… and Quincy Miller has been pulled up by the Sacramento Kings for his second 10 day contract!  Way to go Quincy!  Apparently he rocked it at the Showcase!

Happy New Year! Hope 2015 is fantastic!

I can’t believe how fast 2014 went… seems I was just getting geared up for the spring and now I’m doing it again!

This time of year is often hard for a lot of photographers, we always want to kick off the new year with new inspiration, new ideas, and well… we’d like to do more business for the new year… but sometimes the long weeks and often months of no income of the “slow season” gets us down. Such is the life of being a photographer! 🙂

Within our “photographic community” we always seem to be able to find some bit of inspiration to brighten up our attitude… this year, for me, it’s a throw back!  Kodak made this video ten years ago!  TEN YEARS!!  Scott Kelby posted this on his blog today, and it’s, well… it’s amazing, it’s the reason a lot of us cannot put down the camera, even sometimes when “sense” would make more for us to stop and do something else.

Enjoy!

Oh, it goes about 6 minutes 20 seconds… then the video gets a little wonky…

Happy New Year!  I hope to see you this year from behind the lens!!

2014-2015 NBA D-League, Reno Bighorns vs. Austin Spurs, January 6, 2015

The Austin Spurs held the Bighorns to fewer points than normal and that seemed to have an impact on the outcome… the team’s on the road for a few games then the showcase in Santa Cruz over the Martin Luther King Weekend.  Here are some shots from the game. Be sure to check out the Bighorns website at www.renobighorns.com #weloveourbighorns

2014-2015 NBA D-League, Reno Bighorns vs. Idaho Stampede, December 14, 2014

The Reno Bighorns hosted the Erie Bay Hawks tonight and won 156-130.  Brady Heslip scored eight more threes tonight!  Kings assignee Quincy Miller put up a game high 31.  Be sure to check out the Bighorns website at www.renobighorns.com #weloveourbighorns

2014-2015 NBA D-League, Reno Bighorns vs. Idaho Stampede, December 12, 2014

Finally got some photos of Brady Heslip doin’ his thing from the 3 point line!  I think the fast pace got away from the Idaho Stampede last night, the Bighorns just kept pushing and pushing and walked away with the win 133-122.  The Reno Bighorns host the Erie Bay Hawks (affiliate of the Orlando Magic) on Sunday, December 14th at 5:00 PM at the Reno Events Center in Downtown Reno, NV.
