Basketball season is here! Carson High vs. Reno High…

Carson High kicked off the basketball season hosting Reno High tonight… The JV boys, JV Girls and Varsity Girls played tonight… the Varsity Boys team is still not official as the football players that played Saturday have only just had an opportunity to get out to the court… so the Varsity Boy’s will kick off their season on Thursday night against South Tahoe during the tournament they’re hosting this weekend…

Check out the rest of the game action at the links on the side…

Here are some shots from the night…

Carson High vs. Reed High NIAA 4A Northern Championship Football

Reed High is the NIAA North Section 4A Champion… and are headed to the State Championship game against Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) next Saturday (12:15 kickoff) at Damonte Ranch High School in South Reno.

I’m not a “football” person so I don’t know the in’s and out’s of the “finer” points of the game… but to me, the casual observer/photographer… Reed had Carson’s number today in every way imaginable…

This photo exemplifies Carson’s game today for me… Dylan vs 5 Reed defenders… and the second photo Dylan with the paws of two Reed Raiders all over him…

This was my first time ever at Mackay Stadium at UNR… the shadow from the press/sky box area put a very long shadow over the game for much of the second half which creates a not very friendly shooting situation… My focus today was to try to get more of Carson and not really shoot too much of Reed… but I was able to get off a few shots of Reed at the end of the game still in good light.

So this ends the season for Carson… League Champions three seasons in a row… a Championship game in Mackay Stadium… I know they’re not ending the way they wanted but all in all, a good season in most people’s books!

Now onto basketball season… Tuesday!  No break in the fun!!  See you out on the court.

Middle School Basketball…

If you follow my site during the year you’ll see some familiar faces here!  The middle schools are on a different schedule than the high school for basketball so this was a good warm up for me… These “tweener” times (between seasons) can be a little strange… shoot basketball at 3:00 and 4:00 then football at 7:00… how fun is that! 🙂  Here are a few shots from the galleries in the menu on the side.

Carson High vs. Bishop Manogue High Football… Playoffs…

Carson hosted Bishop Manogue tonight… after the fire and incredible winds we had on Friday, the North Section Semifinals were moved to… Monday Night Football!!  Just can’t resist that!  🙂

The first half was close but in “Roman” Fashion, adjustments were made and the second half swung Carson’s way for a 32-21 victory….  This puts Carson playing Reed (who defeated Douglas tonight…) on Saturday at UNR’s Mackay Stadium at Noon.

To see the rest of the season of images… click on the school from the side menu Current Events.  We’ll see you out at the game on Saturday!

Here are some shots from tonights game…

The Manogue QB… he saw a lot of action tonight, Carson kept him on his toes and he threw the ball… a lot…

… but tonight was about celebration for Carson…  Here Big Luke after his TD reception… (this is what happens when you try to capture a celebration with a very large lens standing way too close… but I liked it…)…

… and after Brock’s TD reception…

… and of course, Mr. Sawyer’s saw the ball a lot tonight…

Carson High Football, First Round of Playoffs!!

Carson took away a win tonight… they had a sizable lead at the half, 31-0 and ended up with a win 44-17… and a few “upsets” across the league… I think most people would have picked McQueen to beat Manogue… didn’t happen, well done Manogue… as well I think Reno was “expected” to beat Douglas… didn’t happen, well done Douglas!!!

Next week will be Carson hosting Manogue and Reed hosting Douglas.  Should be some great football for the second round of Northern Region 4A NIAA Football!

Here are some shot from tonights game.  See the rest at the link on the side for Carson High Athletics.  See you next week at the game!

I tried to give the fellas in the trenches some time tonight…

And of course, the usual suspects!  🙂

Carson Pop Warner today…

Just a few photos from the Carson Mitey Mite White vs. Carson Mitey Mite Blue game today… yes, you read that right… Carson vs. Carson!  🙂  Check out the rest of the photos at the link on the side for Carson Pop Warner under Current Events!

Carson High Football tonight… Senior Night…

Besides it being VERY cold… I’m not quite sure how the night could have gone better tonight.  Both the JV and Varsity walked away with wins, giving BOTH undefeated regular seasons!! Well done fellas!!

The night started early with the JV beating Reno… then the Senior Night introductions with the players and parents… and as you all know, Steven and Keegan would have been seniors this year so the team framed the two boy’s home jerseys and presented them to the parents.  A very tough thing to deal with… for everyone… I’ve never heard it so quiet on the Carson side as when they were presenting these beautifully framed jerseys, the presentation was very much appreciated by the parents.  Still some of the strongest people I’ve run across….

Let me throw in one JV photo before we get onto the Varsity… some more of that nice light I was talking about in yesterday’s post….

And the Varsity…

Carson’s first touchdown… by Chance Q.You know he’s fast when he has Road Runner dust coming up from his shoes! 🙂

And a happy Coach with a few seconds left to play….

Carson High Freshman Football tonight…

A good night!  A great way to end the season! Here are a few shots from the night, you can check out the rest of the Freshmen’s year at the link for Carson High on the side.

Love this shot!  Maybe it’s a photographer thing… 🙂  something different, a player that’s pretty tough to get a good shot of given he’s typically in direct contact most of the “action” moments of a game…

Colby made his mark on this game tonight… a couple touchdowns… some great action runs for me to shoot… Thanks Colby!  🙂

Brady running the ball….

And a close up shot… see the bottom for my comments about shots like this…

Tonight I was very pleased with the shots I got… the “beauty” of shooting the Freshman and JV teams is that for at least the first quarter, longer earlier in the season… but the sunlight is low in the sky and shinning across the field… and if you’re patient, the players will turn into the sun so you get them in a nice warm “glowy” light… makes for some GREAT images…  The image above with Colby, you can see the sun lighting up his face…. that’s great light!

The second thing of note tonight… I’m shooting with a fixed focal length lens… meaning, there’s no “in lens” zoom… the “zoom” is your feet… so you have to make a decision… the guy’s running right at me, what do I do… I can’t get up and run down the field faster than he is with the lens and continue shooting… so… keep shooting and you get SUPER tight shots like the last one posted here….

Now… I don’t know if any of you have noticed any “changes” in my photography this year… well, back in early September I was at a photo conference and picked up some new ideas, some new things to try… I hope it’s been an improvement.  I’m feeling better about my work, I’m hoping that it will equate to additional business… and even potentially some “bigger” things in my future.  Stay tuned!

Carson High Boy’s Soccer tonight…

In a replay of last year’s first round playoff game, one that Carson walked away with a win… Carson took the lead about 15 minutes in and held on to win the game 1-0…  For the Seniors, this was their last game on the home turf… all the rest of their season will be played at Damonte Ranch starting Thursday…  The Northern Region championship is this Saturday (the Girl’s Regional Championship is also that day at Damonte…).  I’m REALLY hoping to see the Carson Boys make the Regional Final on Saturday… I also expect there to be one more Carson Douglas rematch on the Girl’s Bracket… I won’t be at the Regional Semi’s tomorrow and Thursday… but I’ll be at the Regional Finals on Saturday if things go our way!!  🙂

Here are some shots from tonight… a few of the Seniors in action for their last home game… ever….  Good luck to the Carson and Douglas teams!!

First up, Evan… scored a great goal from a crazy angle… reminded me of my only claim to the record books at San Jose State…

Sam working up the left side in Sam’s usual fashion… 🙂

And Zach… took a knock to the mouth in the first half, HUGE fat lip (look close you can see it…)… toughed it out the second half and helped hold down the back.
