Hockey Hockey Hockey!!! South Tahoe Hockey Invitational Tournament

Four days, 40 games, 56.5 hours on the ice… THAT’S a weekend!  Straight to the “shots”… 🙂  (you can find the rest of the images at the link under current events or under Leagues & Events)

Here’s a little gallery first… click to make them bigger.

And I want to make mention of four particular people at the tournament… the first is a young fella… he plays AND he refs… here he is in action… in both uniforms!  Well done Travis!!

And the other three fellas… are coaches.

A very special three fellas in my book.  They coached three of the four Oakland Bears teams… yes, the three coaches coached three teams!  They were not only a blast to be around… but if my kids were to ever play hockey, I would want these three guys to be their coaches.  I see a lot of games (a lot of different sports…), I see a lot of coaches… these three are a special class act, and I told them so.  AMAZING with the kids… as a parent, I’m still analyzing how they interacted with the kids, very positive, very supportive… they didn’t baby the players, they came down on them hard when they needed, but they followed it with “… I know you’re better than that, now get back out there and show me what I know you are capable of…”.  After I see and hear this on the bench and then watch the kids respond on the ice… it puts my faith back into sports, that it’s not all about the prima donna pretty boys and the selfishness we see in some people…. It’s for reasons like this that I have the best job, to spend my days with people like this!  I hope our paths cross again fellas, I very much enjoyed being out there with you guys coaching!  And because I know you don’t hear it often… thank you for what you do, I think you’re doing an amazing job.  I know these young folks you’re working with will also someday look back and know they were involved with some special coaches… and hopefully they’ll pass it on!  Kudos to you fellas!!

Carson High Basketball… vs. Wooster

Straight to the photos tonight!  The Varsity Girls won, the Varsity Boys lost…

I was messing around with a fisheye tonight during the JV Boys game… Shoot me a comment if you like it… the black in the corners is because I’m using a “crop” bodied camera… if this was a full frame camera the image would be round… stay tuned for that…

Onto the game action… more “playing” at the very end…

So I had this idea with another lens… didn’t have it tonight so I thought I’d at least play a bit to see what I could get… this happens to be a Rafe free throw… pretty good chance it will go in with him shooting!  🙂

The blur in the net and ball is because the shutter speed of the camera is low… this photo also shows the lack of “fans” in the stands… so I might be trying this again later with some “ambiance” in the background… 🙂  See you next time!

Carson Douglas Basketball tonight at Douglas…

Four games tonight after driving home from Monterey (5.5 hours)… and after my 5 Mile Monterey Run this morning… I’m beat!  The 5 miles is to try to get trimmed back down… O.L.D. and… one I can do something about!  🙂

Tonights games… The Carson Girls Varsity won and the Douglas Boys dominated… The Carson Boys fought back a bit in the second half but it was far too late as the Tigers rode off into the sunset with the win… can’t wait to read the paper tomorrow about this one… sorry Carson fellas…  here are a few photos from tonights games… more on the site using the links to the side….

Carson High Basketball vs Reno High December 29, 2011

This game was originally scheduled for earlier in the season… three days after the Carson vs. Reed Football game… which would have been two days before the football players were eligible to play… Carson started out strong tonight keeping a point edge through most of the game… at one point getting somewhere around 14 points ahead… Reno kept at it tying the game with about a minute to go… as everyone knows the last minute of a basketball game can last… and last… Carson did well to burn the clock, with about 10 seconds to go, Reno tied the game… Carson in bounded quick up the court and took a time out with 3 seconds on the clock…  Ball in bounded to Ty Keefer, layup with one second to go, game over!!  Here are some shots from tonight’s game.

And last but not least… a big smile after dropping the last basket to win the game!

Carson is on the road next Tuesday (North Valleys) and Wednesday (Douglas). The Carson Douglas games are always great, can’t ever beat rivalry basketball!

Carson High Girl’s Basketball vs. Incline High

The Carson High Girl’s hosted Incline High tonight… The Senators came a way with two wins, mostly a practice game as Incline is a 2A school so the scores were a little lopsided… Some good practice between league games and tournament action… the Carson Girls head off to Vegas for a tournament after Christmas…  The Boys return to action next Thursday evening at Carson High vs. Reno, a rescheduled non-league game from when Carson was short the football players….  Here are a few shots from tonight’s game.  Check out the rest at the link on the side for Carson High Athletics.

… and from the JV game…

Carson High Basketball vs. Reed tonight…

Lots of basketball tonight!  These game nights can be great for me, I get to switch from one end of the court every 8-15 minutes (between quarters or between games…) and cover 4 Carson High teams in one night!  Lots of basketball…!  Here are a few shots from the night…. check out the rest of our game action at the links on the side under Current Events.

Capital Classic Basketball Championship… Carson High… Dayton High

This afternoon Carson hosted Damonte Ranch at the Capital Classic Basketball Tournament.  Damonte squeaked out the win in the end but it was a seesaw battle at the end…  It’s very interesting for me to see some of these faces on the court… this is my third year covering basketball at Carson… some of these seniors I’ve only see in other sports… as always, its VERY interesting to see who excels at each sport.  Here are just a few shots from today… Dayton also played for the 3rd place spot today and couldn’t rally a come back and lost to Sparks.  Those two schools should have some great battles against each other during league!

See all the action at the links on the side for your school…

Carson High Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Dayton High

The Carson High Boys Varsity took on Dayton tonight in only their second game of the season… For most of the game Carson had a decent point advantage, Dayton was able to even the score in the later part of the 4th quarter… but Carson pulled away and took win number two for the season….  This puts them into the Championship for the Capital Classic on Saturday @ 2:30 PM.  Get out there and support your team!!

Carson High Boys Varsity Basketball Opener… Dayton High Boys Varsity Basketball

Tonight was the first round of the Capital Classic Basketball Tournament hosted by Carson High.  The third game of the night was Dayton vs. Wooster with Dayton winning… then Carson took on South Tahoe, Carson with the win.  Considering this was the team’s second day as a “formed” unit (the final team “picks” were done yesterday…) Carson looked pretty good… they clearly have work to do, but for just getting out there and more or less winging it… well done fellas!

Here are some shots of Dayton and Carson… more to follow tomorrow… Carson plays Dayton at 7:30 tomorrow night back at Carson High.  Should be a good match up….  Check out the full galleries at the links on the side under Current Events.
