The Championships are tomorrow! The 3rd place games will be starting at 10:30, 1:30 and 4:30 on Field 4 and the Championships are at 10:30 (the 10’s and Jrs), 2:00 (11’s) and 5:00 (12’s). Going to be some great baseball!! Good luck to all the teams!
Photo of the Day, Day 10… what looked like something that was going to be a close call ended up being… well, blocked by a leg! 🙂
Photo of the Day, Day 8… (Edit… I found another that I have to post!)
Never gotten a shot quite like this so I’m posting a second Photo of the Day! This is the left fielder… had to crop this to show the shadow too… 🙂
Going with the ball squish on the bat! Almost doesn’t look real to me! The Junior Tournament started Wednesday… this was from the Reno American vs. Truckee-North Tahoe (TNT) game yesterday.
OK, this story is just too good not to share! I’m in a unique position, I spend a large part of the tournament kneeling in front of the dugouts on all the fields… so I get to hear a lot of what goes on with the kids. Well, on Saturday… as this fella’s running out to bat, someone in the dugout yells, “… I’ll give you 10 bucks if you hit a home run!”… so out he trots to the dish… I believe the other team was making a pitching change so the 3rd base coach was chatting with him and very distinctly (as you can see in the photo…) where he wanted him to drive the ball… 🙂
Up to the plate, thank you very much, I’ll just go yard with that one! … and with a huge smile (you’ll have to look that photo up in the gallery…) the first words he says when he returns from his journey around the bases… “… you owe me 10 bucks!” 🙂
The competition is getting tougher and tougher with each day! There are only a few days left in the Nevada District 1 Little League All Star Tournament!!
Tonight I have to go back to a “jube” photo… THIS bunt lead, through one major error on the field… to the bottom photo… a bunt “home run”… yes indeed, pure jubilation!
Day six is in the books… the competition is escalating with each round… tonight I saw something I’ve never seen on the little league fields (this is our ninth year doing Little League All Star Tournaments in Northern Nevada… so I’ve seen a few games along the way…)
This shortstop backhands the ball, which I’ve seen countless times… but without hesitation he swings his left arm (with ball in glove) back toward second base and lets it fly back to the second baseman who was in position to record the out… very impressive young man… and with no effort whatsoever! 🙂 It doesn’t show as well in stills but I have the entire series if you want to take a look in the RALL gallery… Here is the backhand and the ball on it’s way to the second baseman.
The toughest day is in the books! 13 games spread across four time slots… the weekend is always the toughest of the tournament! Today saw a strange but welcome mix of weather, some clouds and a touch of rain visited today and cooled things down a bit… well at least for the ambient temperature… there were a couple of games today that were quite intense! Some close battles for sure!
Photographers call it “jube”, short for jubilation… this takes the Photo of the Day honors for the long day… that’s pure excitement right there! 🙂
