A day of baseball… Carson Varsity & Douglas JV

First up, Carson vs. Elko… The Elko boys got up this morning… drove across the State and almost… almost took one away from Carson today… and drove home after the game.  Carson won in the bottom of the 7th inning 12-11… not a pretty game… the photo below of Chance blowing a bubble kinda sums up the game… I’ll leave it at that.

… but first up, Casey working to make the tag…

and the photo I mentioned above… I’m not picking on Chance… he was just blowing this bubble while at bat… those are things that photographers are SUPPOSED to get… 🙂

Then it was off to Douglas High for the JV game against Damonte Ranch… again, not the prettiest of games… AGAIN… bottom of the 7th inning… Douglas wins 13-12.  Here are a few picks from the game…

James pitching… for those that know James, it’s no big deal, for those that don’t know him, it’s a big deal… he’s HUGE… I believe he’s 6′ 8″… and he’s a freshman!  I’ve been photographing James for a few years… always a pleasure!  Great kid, great family, REALLY great family!  Here’s today in a Douglas uniform and a few years back in a Carson Valley Little League All Star uniform… THIS collage started what we now affectionately refer to as the “mom shot”…

… and a similar comparo with Sully… glad to see both you guys out there playing still!!  Sorry for the potentially embarrassing photos of days gone by… just proud of you fellas for sticking with it and starting your high school “careers”!

Carson High Varsity Baseball tonight…

Tonight the team presented the Anderson Family a signed ball and CHS Team hats before the game.  As most of the community knows, Stephen Anderson and Keegan Aiazzi were killed in a scuba accident on April 9th.  Tonight was a tribute to the boys and their families… As we’re all very well aware, this has been a very tough loss for the community.  I’ve been very impressed with the team through this difficult time.

Just two photos here from tonight… there are more in the gallery, some different stuff tonight… some “Mom” shots 🙂

Here’s a before and after…  Typically the fellas take the field in their respective positions, tonight they stayed on the foul line together…

The fellas in the outfield for a post game meeting, after a big win tonight… Please take special notice of the bottom corners of the scoreboard.

Rest in Peace Stephen and Keegan, you were loved, you are missed, you won’t be forgotten….

Carson Jr Varsity Baseball @home today…

The Carson JV Baseball team hosted Reed today… they came away with a 10-3 win.  They play on the road at 3:45 on Thursday…

The Varsity is back at McNutt Field on Thursday night at 6:30 for the Stephen and Keegan Scholarship benefit game.  Come on out to support the students, the team and the cause…

Here’s some action from today’s JV game against Reed…

I’ve got to start off with Bob the Umpire… This is my fifth baseball season in the area… Bob and I “go way back” to the very first tournament we shot down in Gardnerville… he’s got a very animated “STRIKE THREE!!!”… the first one I caught is the first photo here… he’s a great guy, does a lot for the softball and baseball programs around here… He just got back from Williamsport for an umpire training!!  Always great to see you Bob!  The second photo is from today…

Back to the game action…  Opening pitcher for Carson… a shout out to Tyler… he “likes” us on Facebook!

Some bat to ball contact from Chance Blueberg…

The subtle things in a photo… look at the fingers on the ball… I don’t know enough about pitching to know what this does… but it looks like he does a good job of hiding it with his body…

Another one of the same… I liked the eyes…

First base stretch…

Carson High Track Invitational…

To the parents that I disappointed, I’m really sorry… today was not a great day for me…  Trying to shoot an entire track meet… print onsite… with just two of us… not a good idea… there were times where I was lost… didn’t even know where to go to get a shot because I couldn’t even figure out what event we were on…  So, the track meet today kicked my butt…!  I did get some shots that I like thankfully!

A little hurdle action…

Field events… and I’m SURE I missed some track event while trying to get the field events… thanks moms for calling me prior to the meet to let me know!!

Some pole vaulting… Carson team…

Trying to quiet his supporters before his last attempt… and having fun!  Love the smile!

Some high jump… high jumped over 6 feet…

Last photo… some triple jump…

Opening Day for Carson City Little League!!

Photos inside today in the new indoor facility!

This photo is from a top the Field 2 Press Box for the “league” photo… this during the national anthem… I’ve talked about this before… this is one of the greatest things, hearing the National Anthem, the flag flying in the background, the beautiful horizons we have here… God Bless all those that make all of this possible… What a Country!

Whittell Softball today… the wind didn’t blow us away!

Some more game action for Whittell High Varsity Softball… the wind kicked up the dirt once so bad the plate umpire had to call time just to be able to see… Whittell handled Hug in 5 innings with a ten run game.

Sliding into home… SAAAAAAFFE!  (eye’s on the prize all the way in!)

The bats were working today…

What looked like a for sure hit was foiled by the second baseman’s extra effort… a great play!

The pitcher… again… both feet off the ground! I can just stare at her feet, not something you see too often…

Carson Baseball… days off are not a good thing…

It’s been a long long time objective in any home and away series, regardless of which sport… that you want to win the one at YOUR house and hope for a tie at “their” house… (sorry, the “tie” comes from my soccer days…)… well no one mentioned this “objective” to the Carson High or Damonte Ranch High Varsity Baseball teams this past home and away series.  They split the series, Carson winning @ Damonte and Damonte winning today @ Carson.  That’s backwards fellas….

Today was not really a very pretty game for Carson… I’ve seen a fair amount of baseball, I’ll never proclaim to know much of anything about the game having never played even 1/3 of an inning in my entire life… but Damonte played an interesting game today… it all keyed on getting on base with little bunts and pushing hard for base advancements… ehhh, you learn something new every day… and it makes the game a lot of fun for me, I get to learn new things every time I go out to the park!

Here’s some action from the day…  check out the rest in the gallery under Carson High Athletics.

Start it off with how it finished… Drew closing out the game on the mound…

Brock throwing for the double play…

Dion laying down a sacrifice bunt…

Here’s my “… I don’t know anything about baseball…” disclaimer… I just like the photos because the ball and the bat are about to get together for a meeting… … going back to my not knowing anything about anything with playing the game… and I once had a Little League coach explain that some of the best hitters aren’t watching the ball hit the bat… and I REALLY don’t understand how people CAN hit the ball without watching the ball hit it… (I remember what not watching the ball when I kicked it resulted in playing soccer… I was lucky if I didn’t hurt myself…) but…

Austin making contact…

And TJ late in the game for a hit…

A little change in the “action”… Whittell Softball today!

Mother Nature is finally being kind… maybe a bit too kind, what an amazing day of weather!!

Out at Lampe Park today for Whittell vs. Dayton Softball… Double header… I’ve never shot on field 4 before, the first game was great, there was a bit of an issue in the first couple of photos in the gallery (www.instaimage.com/whs) due to a shadow from a light stand… but otherwise it was OK.  The second game the shadows became very long and started to creep up on the players… not so nice… so I shot a few and left it for another day.

Here are two shots from the day… I’ve never seen this in any of my photos before… the pitcher is completely in the air, check out her feet!

Douglas High Baseball…

After Mother Nature made a mess for us last week… she’s produced two of the most beautiful days for baseball that we’ve had in awhile… I think it was almost 80 degrees today!

Douglas hosted McQueen today and was able to ten run them in the 5th inning, 12-2… Here are some shots from the game… you can see the rest by clicking Douglas High Athletics in the menu to the right…
