My Girls…

When my oldest (now 2 3/4 years old) was first born I had this idea to take her photos of her like this, she needed to be old enough to be on her belly and hold herself up with her arms… that was about 5 months old… there are three 16×20’s on the wall in my office of her… now our second is about the same age (we’re off by two weeks…) so today we took the photos of her…  Enjoy!  Can you tell me who’s who?

Softball and Baseball… Northern Nevada “Spring” Sports…

If you’re not familiar with Northern Nevada in March… here’s an example… before it started snowing today I was out with the Carson High JV Softball team to take their team photo for the yearbook… at that time, at the weather station that I view close to my house on the internet… the winds were blowing at a constant above 20 miles per hour with gusts as high as 56 miles per hour… you know, interstate legal speeds, wouldn’t want to impede traffic… ARE YOU KIDDING ME!  Come on Mother Nature, have some pity on us…

Anyway, it was fun hanging out with the team for a bit waiting for one of the coaches to arrive… I’m looking forward to nicer weather, greener fields and beautiful mountains in the background when we take their “real” team and individual photos, they’ll look a lot nicer and we won’t have horizontal hair issues.  Stay tuned!

Carson High Baseball, League Opening Day…

Carson High hosted Wooster today at McNutt Field… if you’ve lived in Northern Nevada for any amount of time you know baseball season is when we get our worst weather… today with the wind and rain, Mother Nature did not disappoint!!  Carson won the game and started league play with one in the win column!  Just two photos tonight, see the rest in the gallery to the right under Carson High Athletics.  The Senators are at Wooster on Thursday and then return home on Saturday vs. Spanish Springs… weather pending of course….  Hope to see you out at the park.

Colby going… over the right field fence…

And Brock getting back to first…

Carson High Baseball… off to a good start!

I’m working on a project for the Carson High Baseball team so I got a jump today on some action up at the Mike Bearman Memorial Tournament at Reno High.  During the tournament they went 4-1… seems like a good start to the season which kicks off on Tuesday at home against Wooster at McNutt Field at 3:45 pm.

I’m excited about the team this year, there is a different atmosphere in the dugout this year, it’s exciting!

I hope to see you out at some games!

Carter here to start the first game today against Lowry from Winnemucca…

Brock with the tag from a throw from Rory behind the plate…

Colby getting it done with the bat…

Zak in to finish the first game…

TJ, (a freshman)… I’m hoping for good things from this kid… keep and eye on him, he’s already contributing…

Adam started the second game and went 6 innings…

Rory behind the plate… I still have some cobwebs, shooting basketball is just not the same… but my timing will get better… (check out the blurred ball going into the glove…)

… and that timing should get better with bat on ball shots too!

Charlie in to close the 7th inning of the second game… against Reno High…

The sample is…

Here’s a view of what our new Pano Poster looks like using Basketball instead of Hockey like the example on the collage info page has… looks pretty cool!

An idea comes to fruition… finally!

Some of you may have seen this technique before… I hadn’t tried it… I got the photos quite some time ago… with the idea of creating this type of a poster for Zach… the best thing, they really like it!!

The photos for this are a part from what I would typically shoot so I had to consciously shoot for this end result and I’m very pleased that I did.  Most of the posters I’ve seen like this actually move the player’s second, third and fourth images farther away so you can see the face better, and I understand why they’re doing that but to me that takes away from the authenticity of the shots, where his feet and body ARE vs. where you’ve put them using Photoshop…

Enjoy!  See you out at the park soon!

Are you ready for some… Baseball!

I know, we’re looking at snow falling and I’m talking baseball… that’s High School Baseball in Northern Nevada!  There are supposed to be scrimmage games on March 5th… we’ll see what this current storm brings… and we’ll see if any of the schools can get their fields cleared…  Sounds crazy when I look out at the falling snow, but I’m ready for baseball season!!

Here’s some work from last season… still working on what I’m going to do this year…

NIAA Northern Region 4A Championships

Congratulations to the four teams competing in the NIAA Northern Region 4A Championships Saturday evening at the Carson High Gym!

In the Girl’s final, Reed High defeated a very pesky Galena High team.  The Galena girls kept themselves in the game right to the very end with a lot of hustle and determination… in the end it wasn’t quite enough and the Reed High Raiders will be heading to Vegas to represent the Northern Region this coming week, good luck ladies!

The boy’s final… when the public address announcer states “… please move closer to your neighbor to make room for the additional people arriving…” you know it’s going to be an exciting place to be.  Bishop Manogue faced Douglas… The Miners jumped out to a pretty big lead in the first half, really controlling the game, they seemed to have Douglas’ number… the second half Douglas cut the lead and were tied at times… but the baskets wouldn’t fall for the Tigers and the Miners controlled the ball wasting a great deal of valuable time for the Tigers… The Miners finally ended the game from the free throw line with their freshman being the “chosen one” to be fouled the most in the late part of the game to stop the clock and get the ball back for the Tigers.

All the teams should be very proud of their accomplishments this season.  For the Manogue and Douglas boys teams… playing in the Regional Championship in front of a packed house at a neutral location… that’s something special, it was a very impressive crowd last night, I hope you all had a second to take in the magnitude of the evening.

Here are some photos from the evening.  The Girl’s up first…

The marked “man” by the Reed team… though she still made things happen…

Hustle, hustle, hustle, the Galena Girls kept themselves in the game with hard work!

One of many drives to the basket…

Galena kept Reed off balance forcing them to make these types of shots…

A great feeling!

The boy’s tipoff!!  Check out the stands above the basket… that’s typically not even open during the season… (not even for the Carson/Douglas games…)

This is what the Douglas boys faced the entire night… no easy shots, Manogue challenged EVERYTHING…

NIAA Northern Divsion 4A Semifinals…!!! WOW!

If you like basketball… and you weren’t at the Carson High School Gym tonight you missed two AMAZING ball games!

Two games decided in the last 3 seconds…

The first Bishop Manogue vs. McQueen… by all reports Manogue looked flat compared to the last time these two met, McQueen came to play tonight!  It was a battle right down to the end with Manogue scoring the game winning bucket with pretty much no time left on the clock… in the photo of the game winning shot you can see the ball in his hand with 4.9 seconds on the clock…  After the Manogue crowd was chanting… “… we want Douglas, we want Douglas…”

Douglas did not disappoint… Douglas played Hug… double overtime… behind by two with 3.8 seconds on the clock, inbound at the half line… inbound, pass, pass, three pointer at the buzzer to win the game… bench cleared and the only thing keeping the Douglas fans from clearing to the floor was the Douglas and Carson administrative staff keeping people back…  What a game, no way you could have scripted one better than this…

Here are some pictures from tonight…  Even the Nevada Governor was in attendance…!

Austin had a big night tonight, breaking out on the wings and long passes up the court or steals and layup shots…

After hitting the three… what can you say?  This photo has the agony of defeat and the joy of triumph…

Mr. Brian Sandoval… Nevada’s Governor… out for a little Prep Basketball!

Douglas High Playoff Basketball…!!

I said this back on December 10, 2010… I really like watching and photographing this year’s Douglas High Boy’s Varsity Basketball team… they want to win, and they do something about it… hustle, hard work, team work, three pointers, rebounds, dunks!, they put Reno High away tonight 69-46 at the Douglas Gym… now it’s on to the Regional Semifinals at Carson High on Thursday… Douglas will play Hug High… here are a few photos from tonight.  Austin hit several threes and Hunter dunked… right in front of me, glad I got it…!  Check out the rest of the photos from the season… Douglas High Basketball

I’ll be at the Regional Semifinals as well as the final, good luck to all the teams playing!!

I don’t typically comment on the officials (and I’m not really going to… but), they have a tough job, I just thought this photo was humorous… this was called a jump ball…..

When you shoot a lot of sports you’re going to get “ump-ed”… the official will pass between you what you were hoping to photograph… typically you get a lot of black when you’re shooting down low like I do… in this case, the ref’s arm, torso and leg give this a nice vignette… so I didn’t have to… too bad the face is a bit soft…  Oh well, the perils of sports shooting!
